- Connecticut, USA -

The North Haven Police Department arrested 25-year-old GIOVANNI J. WHITMORE (pictured).

The police said in a press release that on September 14, 2025, while investigating an unrelated incident, they were made aware of an animal cruelty complaint.

Through investigation officers learned that WHITMORE “had escalated behavior towards a household dog from discipline to displays of violence and aggression,” stated the release.

The release went on to state: “These actions included full force, closed fist striking of the dog's body, neck, and head.”

Moreover, it is alleged the dog was forced to stand on her hind legs for hours at a time.

The police tell me that the furvictim is a Bernedoodle named Nala.

Officers consulted officials with North Haven Animal Control, who agreed the alleged behavior was “far beyond” any reasonable training or discipline standards. According to the press release, the furvictim has been removed from the home.

WHITMORE was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and one count of second-degree threatening.

WHITMORE was being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
