In September 2023, 59-year-old MARY M. GOOD, her son 41-year-old ERIC LEE WISE WERNER, and her boyfriend 23-year-old JADDEN ALEXANDER MOORE, (all pictured), were evicted from a house they were sharing in the 100 block of Falmouth Road in Conoy Township.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, the trio left the property abandoning more than twenty animals and leaving the bodies of more than fifty others stored in freezers. The DA’s Office added that the trio “made no attempt to inform township officials that there were animals left inside the residence.”
The following month, in October 2023, Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Society Officers were called to the home and they found the residence boarded up with no food or water left for the animals inside.
Officers initially recovered fifteen adult cats, a kitten, three domestic rats, and a snake. Sadly, one of the cats was humanely euthanized by a veterinarian hours after being recovered due to his/her critical condition.
Lancaster County authorities returned to the home weeks later after it appeared to have been burglarized, and found five guinea pigs, two wild rabbits, six newborn kittens, sixteen kittens ranging from under one month to around two months old, a juvenile cat and seven adult cats wrapped in plastic bags in a freezer along with frozen food. Another newborn rabbit, white mouse, white rat, newborn kitten, twelve kittens younger than two months old and a juvenile cat were found inside bags in a second freezer.
The Lancaster County DA’s Office said that a total of twenty-one living animals and fifty-five dead animals were recovered from the home. A forensic examination of the surviving animals revealed that they were severely underweight, dehydrated, missing eyes, jaundiced, hypothermic, infested with fleas, had decreased heart rates and had difficulty breathing.
The Pennsylvania SPCA then filed charges against GOOD, WERNER, and MOORE for aggravated animal cruelty, cruelty to animals, and neglect of animals and warrants were issued for their arrest.
Fast-forward to March 2026, when following a three-day trial, a jury found WERNER guilty of seventeen counts of animal cruelty.
On June 26, 2026, Judge Todd Brown handed down the sentence to WERNER. WERNER was sentenced to four years of probation, was ordered to pay $300 fine and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. Additionally, judge Brown banned WERNER from “owning” animals for thirty-four years.
Both GOOD and her boyfriend MOORE pleaded guilty to offenses related to the case in April 2025.
