The Fulton County Police Department arrested 31-year-old JAMARCUS EARL MORRISON (pictured) who runs a dog sitting and boarding business called Unleashed out of his apartment at The Lofts at Twenty25 on Peachtree Road in Buckhead.
On June 25, 2026, the department launched an investigation after receiving a report from a citizen who witnessed an individual throw a dead dog into a dumpster behind the apartment complex.
When Animal Services Officers responded to the location, they discovered a lifeless small tan-and-white female Chihuahua sealed in a black trash bag next to a wire crate.
Animal Services Commander Major Nikki Dwyer told Channel 2 Action News: “We went to the dumpster and were able to locate the deceased canine who had suffered severe injuries from blunt force trauma and had a broken back.”
Surveillance video from the apartment complex showed MORRISON carrying a black trash bag to the dumpster and minutes later returning with the Chihuahua’s crate and toys which he disposed of.
Channel 2 Action News reports that according to the arrest warrant, investigators said that Ring doorbell audio recorded by a neighbor across the hall captured “a dog yelping, loud banging and then silence before Morrison allegedly left the apartment carrying a trash bag.”
Authorities went to MORRISON’s apartment with a warrant for his arrest and found three other dogs who were placed in MORRISON’s care by three different guardians.
When MORRISON was questioned about the deceased Chihuahua, he told authorities she died as a result of drinking dirty water from a dog park earlier in the week.
A necropsy will be performed on the Chihuahua to determine the cause of death.
MORRISON was arrested and charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
