CORY RAY EVANS arrested for shooting a pregnant dog twice

- Tennessee, USA -

On September 18, 2025, Wilson County Animal Control responded to Oak Grove Road after receiving a call about a dog who appeared to be injured.

At the location, Officers found a small black dog wearing a blue collar who was suffering from a severely injured front right leg.

The furvictim was taken to a local veterinarian where x-rays revealed bullet fragments inside the leg. A further examination determined that the dog, a 2-year-old Cocker Spaniel-Poodle mix named Lil Bug, had been shot twice, once grazing the spine and another striking the front right leg at the elbow, shattering the bone. Moreover, it was determined that the poor soul was pregnant.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, jointly with Wilson County Animal Control, launched an investigation, and a $500 reward was being offered for information leading to an arrest.

On November 11, 2025, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office announced that 23-year-old CORY RAY EVANS (pictured), believed to be responsible for the shooting, is in custody on one charge of aggravated animal cruelty.

Court records show EVANS’ arraignment is scheduled for November 26, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Brody Kane.

As for Lil Bug, she is recovering well although her leg had to be amputated due to the severity of the injuries, and she has had her babies.
