The Durant Police Department arrested 44-year-old BRIAN GENE STOWE (pictured).
On the evening of Friday, September 12, 2025, the Department received a call reporting STOWE for abusing a dog. Officers immediately responded to the given location and learned that STOWE had punched a dog and then proceeded to slam the furvictim to the ground.
Sgt. Nicholas Spencer tells me that the dog is a 2-year-old Boxer/Bully mix named Baby Girl.
Durant Animal Control was at the scene and after evaluating Baby Girl they took custody of her.
Sgt. Spencer said that although Baby Girl didn't appear to have life-threatening injuries, “as an abundance of caution, trained personnel monitored her well-being throughout the weekend.”
The good news is that Baby Girl is recovering well. Sgt. Spencer tells me that “her swelling has subsided, and she remains safe, fed, and surrounded by attentive care from the shelter staff and thriving.”
STOWE was arrested that evening and booked into the Bryan County Jail on one felony count of cruelty to animals. At the time of writing, records show he is still behind bars and a preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place on October 29, 2025, at 8:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Durant Police Department is in the process of petitioning for Baby Girl’s custody.
STOWE cannot and must not have the possibility of getting near Baby Girl or even worse getting her back! Baby Girl deserves to be adopted by a loving family and be appreciated and spoiled.
If convicted, STOWE could serve up to only five years in prison and a potential $5,000 fine.
