BRANDI LEANN TYRRELL arrested after dead cats and abandoned animals found inside her grooming business

Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny provided me with an update regarding this case.

According to Chief Benny, five deceased cats were found inside JoJo’s LaundroMutt. He said no necropsies are planned, and dehydration and/or heat is suspected as the cause of death.

Four assorted lizards, two snakes and one tarantula were also found alive inside aquariums at the business. Chief Benny said the surviving animals are doing well and are being cared for, fed and attended to by a veterinarian. None of the surviving animals were euthanized.

The surviving animals are currently in the care of the Dothan Police Department. Chief Benny said that once the animals can be awarded to the department, appropriate rescues will be contacted.

Chief Benny also confirmed that TYRRELL turned herself in late on August 24, 2026.

The Dothan Police Department announced that 41-year-old BRANDI LEANN TYRRELL (pictured) of Midland City is now in custody.

Police took to social media to reach out to the community for assistance after TYRRELL was wanted on two felony counts of first-degree cruelty to a cat and six counts of cruelty to animals.

Dothan police said in their press release that on August 20, 2026, the Dothan Animal Services Division received a call about an odor coming from JoJo’s LaundroMutt, an animal grooming business located at 3702 Ross Clark Circle in Dothan.

According to police, as Animal Services Officers approached the business, they could smell the odor, which led them to believe there were deceased animals inside. Police also said there had been complaints about the odor from surrounding businesses.

When Animal Services Officers entered the business, they sadly found several deceased cats. They also found other animals alive in enclosures inside the business.

According to the press release, “It was clear the animals had been left unattended for about a month.”

Investigators were called to the scene and quickly found that the business had not had active utilities since June. Several surrounding businesses said the owner, TYRRELL, had not been seen for at least three weeks before authorities arrived on August 20, 2026.

TYRRELL was arrested on August 25, 2026, and booked into the Dothan City Jail.
