ANTONETTE SCHEMBRI arrested after four dogs were found dead in her home

- Florida, USA -

The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office said that on Friday, October 29, someone called to report a foul odor coming from a residence on Bagdad Avenue in Arcadia.

Deputy Strube was dispatched to the home to investigate but no one was there.

Deputy Strube was able to make contact with 53-years-old ANTONETTE SCHEMBRI (pictured below) who owns the house but she abandoned it. SCHEMBRI then allowed the deputy in her home.

The scene inside was disturbing”, said the sheriff’s office in a news release.

The home was filled with garbage and Deputy Strube discovered the bodies of four dogs “in various states of decomposition.”

A video published by NBC2, showed the arrest report which stated that one of the dogs was covered in maggots, two were covered in flies, and another one was located in the bathtub.

NBC2 reports that SCHEMBRI told Deputy Strube there should have been a fifth dog but the deputy was unable to find the furbaby among all that trash.

SCHEMBRI told Deputy Strube she is currently living with her father and claimed she has been feeding the dogs daily.

Deputy Strube, however, did not see any sign of food or water, and the place looked like it had been vacant for weeks.

SCHEMBRI was arrested on four counts of cruelty to animals by causing a cruel death or pain and suffering, and four counts of abandonment of animals.

Bond was set at $960. According to online records SCHEMBRI was released after posting bond the day after her arrest.

Reporter Samantha Serbin said: “The worst part is, the report says Animal Control was called out here a few weeks ago but Schembri refused to release the dogs to them.”
