State Police in Huntingdon County arrested 21-year-old ANTAWN JAMES HAMMAN, of Mount Union.
HAMMAN is accused of stabbing a family member’s Pitbull in the neck.
The incident happened in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, on Thanksgiving while family members were gathered for the holiday. HAMMAN left the home and went to the home where the Pitbull was staying.
A short time after HAMMAN left, the dog’s guardian realized that HAMMAN should not have been left alone due to his mental health problems, so she went to look for him.
When she entered her home, she found a large amount of blood and a bloody knife on the bathroom sink. Her Pitbull had a large wound on his/her neck and was bleeding throughout the home.
Police were alerted and responded to the scene. They found puddles of blood, and the wounded dog who was unable to lift his/her head up.
The dog’s guardian advised Troopers that HAMMAN was struggling with mental health problems and that he had had suicidal thoughts. Troopers further learned that HAMMAN said he had not slept for four days and was seeing things.
HAMMAN was placed under arrest and refused to talk to police. He was charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals — causing serious injury or death.
At the time of writing records show that HAMMAN is being held into the Huntingdon County Prison on a $50,000 bail.
I reached out to Huntingdon County Prison to request HAMMAN’s mugshot, but I was told that “Due to recent law changes we are unable to provide inmate booking photos.”
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 10, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
The furvictim was rushed to a veterinary clinic but it’s unclear whether or not he/she survived.
