AKEEM PIERRE charged after a viral video showed him whipping and dragging a defenseless dog

On June 13, 2025, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) received a video from a concerned citizen showing 42-year-old AKEEM PIERRE (pictured), abusing a 1-year-old Pitbull-Catahoula Leopard Dog mix named Pluto.
The incident happened in Dorchester while PIERRE was walking Pluto who was on a leash.
The disturbing video showed PIERRE repeatedly whipping, a cowering Pluto across the face with the leash. PIERRE can also be seen lifting Pluto into the air by his leash and screaming at him while dragging the terrorized furvictim behind him.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said investigators identified PIERRE as the male in the video savagely abusing a defenseless dog.
DA Hayden said that PIERRE stated he was pet-sitting and attempting to train Pluto.
When confronted with the video, PIERRE claimed that Pluto bit him. However, prosecutors said the video does not show that.
Pluto was surrendered to the MSPCA on June 24, 2025, and has since been adopted.
On October 23, 2025, PIERRE was charged in the Dorchester division of Boston Municipal Court with animal cruelty and animal cruelty by custodian. Judge Thomas Kaplanes released him on personal recognizance and ordered him to stay away from Pluto, not own any animals, report to weekly probation meetings, and undergo a mental health evaluation.
PIERRE is scheduled to appear back in court on December 4, 2025, for a pre-trial hearing.
On a separate note, PIERRE also has a pending second offense in Dorchester from 2021 for operating under the influence.
