The Laredo Police Department arrested 22-years-old RICARDO SEGURA JR. (pictured).

On February 10, 2024, the owner of a property in the 14 block of Candlewood Road reported to the police finding one of her donkeys killed by blunt force.

Four days later, on February 14, 2024, the woman called police to report that her pony had been decapitated.

Officers responded to the aforementioned property and an investigation was launched by Crimes Against Property. Investigators identified SEGURA as the suspect involved in both incidents.

In an interview with KGNS, investigator Joe Baeza with the Laredo Police Department, explained that after executing a search warrant at SEGURA’s home, investigators were able to link certain items that were found at the home as hard evidence to what was found at the scene where the animals were discovered.

Police said there are additional issues and details they can’t discuss because the investigation is ongoing.

On March 11, 2024, SEGURA was arrested and booked into the Webb County Jail on two counts of cruelty to livestock animals. Justice of the Peace Danny Dominguez set a combined bond of $20,000. At time of writing, SEGURA is still in custody.

Police also said they are waiting for certain test results to come in before adding any potential charges.

Authorities did not disclose the names of the deceased Voiceless Victims, so I took the liberty of naming them Stella and Luna (Italian for respectively Star and Moon) for the tribute image. Should their given names be made public, I will rectify them accordingly.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrested of 32-years-old ASHLYN ELIZABETH WHITE and her husband 33-years-old NATHAN WESLEY WHITE (both pictured).

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies initially received a call on August 22, 2023, requesting a welfare check for livestock animals on a property on Haden Grove Church Road.

The investigation determined the WHITES to be the guardians of the animals at the property and a compliance order for the animals was issued to the couple.

On January 16, 2024, deputies received another call for a welfare check on the animals and were alerted to more animals being at the same property.

The sheriff’s office said that due to “Exigent Circumstances”, two cows and two horses were surrendered.

According to the arrest warrants obtained by Voice For Us, the WHITES “unlawfully, willfully, and intentionally” deprived of necessary sustenance:

A brown horse named Witchblade.

One white mare

One Jersey Steer

One Holstein Steer

Several chickens

Two mixed dogs

Two goats

One Donkey

One Pig

One black mini mare

Additionally, the WHITES “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” failed to provide adequate food and water for at least five Silkie chickens that resulted in their death.

On February 6, 2024, the WHITES, of Lexington, were arrested and charged with felony count of animal cruelty and nine misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. The couple will be at Davidson County District Court on March 7, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office arrested 68-years-old CYNTHIA ANNE MANDERS (pictured), after a Brazoria County Grand Jury indicted her on forty-one (41) counts of Class A Misdemeanor Cruelty to Livestock Animals stemming from an incident that happened on August 18, 2023.

Back in August, a neighbor had called the sheriff’s office to report that cows were dropping like flies on MANDERS’ ranch, an 800-acre stretch of land along CR 809 south of Sweeny.

At the time, Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman told Click2Houston: “There’s a small amount at first and there has continued to be additional cattle deceased as we continue to investigate the scene.”

Almost forty (40) precious cows and calves died from dehydration.

Officials that responded to the scene said there was no water to be found and according to neighbors, they tried giving the cows water after the poor souls charged their fences.

Click2Houston reported that “firefighters distributed roughly 4,000 gallons of water to hydrate the remaining cows” and that they were asked “to continue distributing water to the cows for the next several days.”

The sheriff’s office said in a media release that MANDERS faces a recommended bond totaling $125,000. A statement read: “Our community will not tolerate animal cruelty within Brazoria County. The swift and decisive action against Ms. Manders sends a clear message that such behavior will be met with the full force of the law.”
