The Cobb County Police Department arrested 58-years-old JUNYING LI (pictured), for leaving her dog in a hot car while she was shopping.

According to the police report obtained by Voice For Us, on the afternoon of Sunday, July 2, 2023, police received a call from a concerned citizen after she noticed a small dog inside a vehicle, alone, in the parking lot of Costco on 645 Ernest Barrett Pkwy.

The witness explained that she had arrived at approximately 3:00 p.m. and parked next to the vehicle with the dog inside. The witness then went inside the store to report the incident and was told that they could not do anything but call the police.

Responding officers located the vehicle in question which had the windows slightly open. One of the officers could fit a hand inside and noticed that the vehicle was still running “but hot air was flowing through the vehicle.”

Officers saw “the dog panting on the [floorboard] of the driver`s side and heard him whimpering through the cracked window”, stated the report.

Officers reported they did not see “any water left for the dog to drink.”

One of the officers used a digital thermometer to measure the internal temperature of the car and according to police, the heat levels of the floorboard where the furbaby was laying was 108 degrees.

One of the officers used a window punch and shattered the driver’s side window to get the dog out.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. LI returned to her vehicle. She was placed under arrest, transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, and released into custody of the Cobb County Sheriff`s Office. Online arrest records show that LI is charged with one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. Bond was set at $4,620.

Police said LI’s vehicle was impounded and Cobb County Animal Control took custody of the dog.

LI was released after posting bond. Court records show that Judge John Morgan applied the following conditions:

1) Defendant shall not violate any laws, local, state, or federal.

2) Defendant shall drink no alcohol.

3) Defendant shall not possess or ingest marijuana, cannabinoids, or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

4) Defendant shall not possess or ingest any drugs unless prescribed lawfully.

5) Defendant shall be required to submit to random alcohol/drug tests at his/her own expense.

6) Defendant shall not possess any firearms.

7) Defendant shall not change present address without written notification to the court seven days prior to a move.

When I emailed the Cobb County Police Department to inquire about the furvictim’s well-being, I learned that the dog is back with LI after she picked him/her up on July 5, 2023.

The police report does not mention the furbaby’s breed, age, or name and police told me they do not have a picture of the dog.

On July 3, 2023, detectives with the Monroe County Drug Task Force went to a home on Colt Lane in Hamilton Township in an attempt to make contact with 33-years-old AMANDA LEIGH AULITO (pictured).

According to a press release by the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office obtained by Voice For Us, “When detectives approached the residence they could smell a very foul odor coming from the home. Detectives heard several dogs barking inside and noticed that there was large amounts of debris outside the residence.”

When Monroe County Police officers knocked on the door, 39-years-old KEVIN MICHAEL CONNOLLY (pictured) answered and quickly closed the door to prevent officers from seeing the inside of the home.

As stated in the release, AULITO and CONNOLLY “consented to a search of their home.” Upon entering the residence, detectives “found the house to be in unlivable and in deplorable condition, further noting that there was no edible food for the children or dogs in the home.”

The couple’s 9-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son were found on the premises.

Detectives called in the ASPCA and Monroe County Children and Youth Services for assistance.

Detective Lippincott tells me that the ASPCA removed thirteen dogs, one cat, and one Snapping Turtle. To my questions whether any animals were found deceased or were euthanized, Detective Lippincott answered that no animals were found dead and that “they will all be forensically examined by a vet.”

I further asked Detective Lippincott about the dogs’ breed and age and she said that she does not know the breeds and that they were all small dogs.

AULITO and CONNOLLY were arrested and charged with animal cruelty, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, hindering apprehension or prosecution, and conspiracy.

Later on, the same day they were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Brian Germano.

The pair are currently being held at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Court records show that a preliminary hearing is set for July 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.

Detective Lippincott tells me that “Additional charges are forthcoming.”

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that 19-year-old BLAKE I. HILIGH of Alexandria, Virginia and 20-year-old ZACHARY F. PILARCEK of Endicott, New York (both pictured), were arraigned on the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2023, before Amherst Town Court Justice Geoffrey Klein.

HILIGH and PILARCEK, former football players of University at Buffalo, are charged with one count of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance (misdemeanor under New York Agriculture and Markets Law).

According to a press release by the DA’s Office, an investigation into these scum began when the SPCA Serving Erie County received a report of animal abuse that happened at an apartment on Sweet Home Road in the Town of Amherst shared by HILIGH and PILARCEK .

The furvictim is a 4-year-old buff-colored male miniature Poodle named Kobe.

In a press release, the SPCA Serving Erie County recounted that on the late evening of June 13, 2023, its Animal Cruelty Investigations Department received an anonymous email which included a video that had been posted on a Snapchat account the same evening, and the name of one of the two individuals involved. According to the SPCA, in the video PILARCEK “is speaking off-camera about damage a dog did to a couch,” while HILIGH, Kobe’s guardian, “claims he will film the punishment the dog will receive.” The SPCA said that HILIGH “is then filmed yelling at the dog,” “and proceeds to beat him with what appears to be a leather belt.”

The following day, the SPCA Serving Erie County launched an investigation and information gathered led Investigator Lindsey Wood to contact University at Buffalo Police officers.

It turned out that officers had received similar reports and fully cooperated with the SPCA investigation.

Later that day, HILIGH and PILARCEK were located and charged.

Kobe was rescued from the property and “was immediately transported to the SPCA Serving Erie County’s veterinary team where he received treatment for bruises and abrasions”, said the Erie County D A’s Office. The DA’s Office advised that the Voiceless Victim “remains under the care of the SPCA at an undisclosed location.”

Kobe’s abusers, HILIGH and PILARCEK, were given an appearance ticket to be arraigned on June 29, 2023.

Following the charges, HILIGH and PILARCEK were suspended from University at Buffalo and dismissed from the UB Football program.

WIVB reports that Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist said in a statement: “The UB football program has zero tolerance for this type of behavior. After learning about the incident, I immediately suspended the two young men from all team activities before permanently dismissing them from the program earlier this month. At UB, not only do we expect our student-athletes to excel on the field and in the classroom, but we also expect them to be outstanding citizens in our community.”

PILARCEK is slated to appear back at Amherst Town Court on the morning of Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., while HILIGH is scheduled to return on Thursday, August 3, 3023, at 9:30 a.m.

Both were released on their own recognizance “as charge is a non-qualifying offense for bail”, explained Erie County DA Flynn. A bond hearing was set for July 6, 2023, in Cheektowaga Town Court.

Judge Geoffrey Klein issued a temporary order that prevents HILIGH and PILARCEK “from owning or caring for any animals while the case is pending.”
