The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested 27-years-old ROGELIO DIAZ (pictured).

According to the Department’s media release, on the afternoon of Friday, April 5, 2024, DIAZ was walking near the 4900 block of Marine Avenue in Lawndale when he saw a cat on the driveway of a home and grabbed the furbaby. DIAZ then repeatedly struck the cat until she was dead.

CBS News identified the cat as a female named Mimi.

The murderer was located and taken into custody on April 11, 2024. He was charged with torturing/killing a live animal. CBS News reports that when DIAZ was arrested, he had cat food on him.

As stated in the media release, “Based on the nature of the offense and additional evidence, detectives believe there may be additional victims.”

In fact, according to an article published by CBS News on April 16, 2024, investigators believe that on April 3, 2024, DIAZ also killed a 16-year-old Chihuahua named Chiquita.

CBS News reports that surveillance footage shows the moments that DIAZ “brutally kicks the dog name Chiquita into the street outside of her owner's home.”

He then stops riding his bike, puts on gloves and moves the dog onto the sidewalk where he repeatedly ran her over.”

I have emailed the Los Angeles County DA’s Office to inquire about DIAZ’s arraignment that was scheduled for April 15, 2024. If I get a response, I will post an update.

Anyone with information about DIAZ or this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (323) - 820 - 6700 or (323) - 820 - 6761. Thank you!

The investigation into DIAZ is ongoing.

~ Update:

I emailed Ms. Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director, and asked her whether any animals were found deceased on the property.

Ms. Wright tells me that no animals were found dead and that none of the rescued animals were euthanized. Ms. Wright also said: “We have been able to send all but 25 so far to foster and rescues.”

The McAllen Police Department announced the arrest of 54-years-old LETICIA N. SANDERS and 55-years-old CINDY ANN WELLS (both pictured), in connection with a hoarding case.

On the morning of Saturday, March 30, 2024, police received a report from an Uber Eats driver about an odor in the 3400 block of Ozark Avenue.

Responding officers requested assistance at the scene from the McAllen Fire Department and ambulance services.

Once inside the property, officials found a large number of dogs and one cat.

All of the Voiceless Victims were taken to the Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS). In a Facebook post, the shelter wrote that ninety-three (93) dogs had been rescued from an hoarding case and placed in their care “under dire circumstances.”

Valley Central reports that Faith Wright, the Palm Valley Animal Society director of operations, said: “They are very, very matted, some can barely walk, due to their feet being tied together by their hair. It’s been a pretty traumatic situation.”

In a subsequent post, PVAS advised that some of the dogs were thankfully placed in foster homes. The other dogs will be transported to rescue groups in San Antonio and New Braunfels.

As you can imagine, the Palm Valley Animal Society needs help to face the sudden influx.

Please, visit their Facebook page to learn how you can help. Thank you!

SANDERS and WELLS were arraigned on Monday, April 1, 2024, on ninety-four (94) counts of animal cruelty and received a $188,000 bond each.

At time of writing, records show they are being held in the Hidalgo County Jail.

The Londonderry Police Department announced the arrest of 60-years-old ROBERT PAUL GERHOLD (pictured).

If his name sounds familiar to many of you, it’s because GERHOLD was involved in another animal cruelty case back in 2023.

Police said in a media release that GERHOLD’s arrest concludes a months-long investigation which began in August 2023.

It started when officer Brittany Reitze responded to a group of attached condominiums on Holly Lane in Londonderry for a neighborhood dispute.

Officer Reitze learned from GERHOLD’s neighbors that “their condominiums were infested with fleas and could smell the strong odor of cat urine in their basements.”

Following the execution of a search warrant at GERHOLD’s residence, police found two live cats and five deceased ones.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Voice For Us, the live cats were discovered upstairs in a bedroom closet. Both furbabies had “noticeable bugs crawling in the fur.”

One of them “was terrified of people and ran and screamed when we were trying to catch him”, states the affidavit.

The second cat appeared to be lethargic. He/she did not even fight back when officers attempted to catch him/her.

In describing the living conditions of the cats, the affidavit states that the Voiceless Victims had a small bowl of food that appeared to have live bugs in and around it. Officers did not see a litter box, nor was there anything to prevent the spread of fleas or to treat the cats who were infested.

Officers then found five dead cats in a pink plastic container in the basement fridge.

According to the affidavit, one of them died with his/her eyes and mouth open.

Officer Reitze reported that all five Voiceless Victims were decomposing as there were liquids secreting from them in addition to what appeared to be significant amounts of blood and bodily fluids on their fur. All of them were also “infested with live and dead bugs that appeared to be fleas.”

Throughout the residence, officer Reitze saw multiple bowls “that were filled with a clear liquid substance and what appeared to be dead fleas at the bottom of each bowl.”

There were also food bowls left on the kitchen floor and fleas jumping around on the kitchen floor and throughout the entire house.

Animal Control Officer Rondeau with the Manchester Police Department responded to the scene and took custody of all seven cats.

In September 2023, officer Reitze made arrangements with the NH Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NHVDL) for a necropsy to be conducted on the deceased cats.

At the end of December 2023, officer Reitze received results from the necropsy which were inconclusive. Due to the decomposition stage, the necropsy was performed on one cat only.

Officer Reitze arrested GERHOLD on March 13, 2024.

GERHOLD was charged with seven counts of animal cruelty. Additionally, GERHOLD was charged with seven counts of breach of bail because two years ago he was charged with abandoning fourteen (14) cats and because of that case, GERHOLD had an active bail condition preventing him from “possessing” any other animals.
