The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrested of 32-years-old ASHLYN ELIZABETH WHITE and her husband 33-years-old NATHAN WESLEY WHITE (both pictured).

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies initially received a call on August 22, 2023, requesting a welfare check for livestock animals on a property on Haden Grove Church Road.

The investigation determined the WHITES to be the guardians of the animals at the property and a compliance order for the animals was issued to the couple.

On January 16, 2024, deputies received another call for a welfare check on the animals and were alerted to more animals being at the same property.

The sheriff’s office said that due to “Exigent Circumstances”, two cows and two horses were surrendered.

According to the arrest warrants obtained by Voice For Us, the WHITES “unlawfully, willfully, and intentionally” deprived of necessary sustenance:

A brown horse named Witchblade.

One white mare

One Jersey Steer

One Holstein Steer

Several chickens

Two mixed dogs

Two goats

One Donkey

One Pig

One black mini mare

Additionally, the WHITES “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” failed to provide adequate food and water for at least five Silkie chickens that resulted in their death.

On February 6, 2024, the WHITES, of Lexington, were arrested and charged with felony count of animal cruelty and nine misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. The couple will be at Davidson County District Court on March 7, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.

~ Update: February 26, 2024

According to the arrest warrants, the Voiceless Victim’s name was Luna. The picture has been updated accordingly. I am still waiting to hear back from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office regarding Luna’s age.

I also learned that SCROGGS’s case is currently scheduled for court on April 19, 2024.

~ Original story:

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office announced that 54-years-old JONNI VALDES GOULDING and 56-years-old JOSEPH TAYLOR SCROGGS (both pictured), are facing animal cruelty charges in connection with a case that is beyond evil!

According to the media release by the sheriff’s office, on January 8, 2024, deputies received a call about a blind, emaciated Husky type dog who was found abandoned near the Warf Road/Feezor Road area.

With the help of the Davidson County Animal Shelter and the Neshama Animal Rescue a post was published on social media, and that helped to determine that GOULDING and SCROGGS were the guardians of the Voiceless Victim.

According to the sheriff's office, despite the emergency medical treatment provided to the dog and all efforts to save this precious life, the furvictim’s “condition [deteriorated] rapidly and she succumbed to her abuse and neglect.’”

On January 19, 2024, SGROGGS, of 300 Cloverdale Drive in High Point, was charged and arrested for one felony count of animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

On February 21, 2024, GOULDING, of 2107 Pyramids Village Boulevard in Greensboro, was charged with one felony count of animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals/abandonment of an animal. She is scheduled to appear in District Court in Lexington on the morning of Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 9:00.

Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons encourages anyone with information related to this case to contact Deputy C. Soles at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division at (336) - 242 - 2105. Thank you!

The Gaston County Police Department arrested 32-years-old CARL LEE POSTON (pictured), following an investigation conducted by Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement.

In a media release, police said that on February 17, 2024, Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement (GCACE) responded to a residence on Boulder Court in Gastonia  in reference to an animal cruelty investigation.  Upon arrival, officers found a dog, a black male Doodle named Bentley, who was in need of shelter.

GCACE then contacted a community partner who assisted by providing Bentley with a new doghouse, straw bedding, and a water bucket.  According to the press release, during this visit, it was discovered that Bentley “had severely matted fur and a wound on his neck that was possibly infected.”

GCACE said they were told vultures were close to Bentley, but none were around when officers were at the scene. Still, GCACE called the reports of vultures “concerning” and told Bentley’s guardian, POSTON, that Bentley would need to be seen by a veterinarian by the end of the day.

Police said that later that day Bentley and POSTON, “were escorted to an emergency vet for a medical assessment.” According to the vet, Bentley needed further medical treatment involving sedation, medical grooming, and wound treatment outside the capabilities of their facility.

The following day, February 18,  2024, Bentley was taken to a veterinarian clinic where he was “sedated, medically groomed, and the wound on his neck was flushed.”  After an antibiotic shot, Bentley was released from care with a follow up appointment in ten-fourteen days.

In an update, police advised that following days of close work with the Gaston County District Attorney’s Office, GCACE obtained warrants for POSTON’s arrest.

On February 20, 2024, the Gaston County Police Department’s FAST team arrested POSTON on two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

Police said that Bentley will remain in GCACE’s care as evidence with an approved foster family.

As Gaston Police rightfully pointed out: “Responsible animal ownership requires an animal owner to provide sufficient shelter, food and water for their animals.  Additionally, animal owners are required to keep their animals updated on vaccinations and provide them with necessary vet care.”

When you decide to add a furmember to your family, UNDERSTAND and REMEMBER that he/she is a lifetime commitment, and his/her life depends on you! If at some point you feel  you want to break that commitment, reach out to your local shelter for help!
