Authorities in Las Vegas arrested 37-years-old DIEGO GONZALEZ (pictured), accused of stealing a family dog, killing him, and dumping him in the desert.

GONZALEZ has a construction company, Gonzalez Flooring, and on Tuesday, June 6, along with his employees, he was doing some work at a home near South Rainbow Boulevard and West Warm Springs Road.

The homeowner, Mr. Mohan Gumatay, told police that the workers told him his dog, a 10-year-old English Bulldog named Bamboo, ran out an open gate.

Nearby homes’ surveillance cameras, however, captured GONZALEZ and at least one other worker taking Bamboo and putting him in GONZALEZ’s white truck. Footage further showed that Bamboo was left in the vehicle with the windows up and the doors closed for at least five minutes.

On the evening of the same day, GONZALEZ was caught on video driving his truck to an empty lot in a desert field near Abels Lane where Bamboo’s lifeless body was found on Wednesday, June 8.

8 News Now reports that police collected surveillance video from the area and the timestamp on the video showed Bamboo’s body was dumped approximately 3 and a half hours after he was stolen from his home and family.

Mr. Gumatay said GONZALEZ’s wife called him and offered him $5,000 if she could not return the dog. Bamboo’s dad declined the money and said he wanted Bamboo to be brought back home.

When GONZALEZ was questioned by police, he said he wanted to bring Bamboo to his children.

He said he believed Bamboo died in the truck.

A necropsy “ruled that Bamboo died of respiratory distress and likely faced some sort of blunt trauma before his death”, reports Las Vegas Review-Journal.

GONZALEZ was arrested on Tuesday, June 21, and charged with willful and malicious torture or killing of a dog and grand larceny over $1,200.

He was released from Clark County Detention Center on Thursday, June 23, after posting a $3,000 bond and a date was set to appear in court on July 21, 2022.

According to 8 News Now, a second arrest has been made in this case but the name of the second arrestee was not disclosed.

A despicable individual that I am sure will bring dishonor to his uniform, decided to play God in a heartbreaking case.

The individual in question is 35-years-old JACOB TYLER TOMLINSON, usually at this point I would say “(pictured)”, but because he is a firefighter, his mugshot is exempt from being made public!

TOMLINSON is accused of "unlawfully euthanizing the family dog" and is now facing criminal charges.

The reality is that TOMLINSON murdered the family dog!

Investigators said the crime took place on Monday, June 20, in the backyard of TOMLINSON’s father, Fred Tomlinson, in Mandarin neighborhood in Jacksonville.

TOMLINSON "euthanized" the dog by shooting him/her multiple times.

News4Jax spoke with the neighbor who called the police and wishes to remain anonymous.

The neighbor said she was in her bedroom when she heard the gunshots and told News4Jax: “I heard three loud pops. I came outside, and that’s when I heard a fourth pop.”

She then added: “At that point, my dad came outside and talked with the neighbor who owned the house, and he said everything was fine.”

After that, she went into the kitchen to get a better look. She said: “I saw this white and brown spotted pit bull struggling to stand up. It almost looked like it was playing, but then he laid down and started violently twitching.” According to the neighbor, TOMLINSON was standing right there watching the dog suffering in pain. He then walked away and the neighbor said: “That’s when I started recording, and the dog was just sitting there violently twitching, and I could see blood pouring out of its chest.”

The neighbor filmed TOMLINSON digging a hole in the ground and investigators said he buried the dog in that hole. The arrest report revealed an additional horrifying detail, stating that the furbaby may still have been alive when he/she was buried.

TOMLINSON told deputies he shot and killed the dog because he/she had been acting aggressively for the past year and had bitten four people, including his neighbor earlier in the day after getting out of the backyard.

TOMLINSON also said he spent a lot of money on dog training.

Duval County Animal Control was notified and Ms. Esther Cleaver, an animal control investigator for the city of Jacksonville, investigated the incident.

She concluded that “the suspect acted inhumanely when executing his animal” and requested the charge to be enhanced to a felony.

She advised that “the fact the animal was moved from the original scene where it bit someone and was shot 4 separate times with bird shot shotguns rounds, points to an inhumane and unnecessary suffering towards the dog.”

In addition, "she provided an additional statue (828 054), for the illegal euthanasia of the dog." Investigator Cleaver took custody of the dog's body for a necropsy.

TOMLINSON was arrested on June 22, and charged with charged with aggravated animal cruelty, unlawful euthanasia, and unlawfully discharging a firearm. He was released the same day.

News4Jax reports that a spokesperson for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said that when personnel are facing legal troubles, they are placed on administrative desk duty while the case is under investigation.

The Kansas City-based nonprofit KC Pet Project announced in a Facebook post that its Animal Services Division is investigating the death of a dog who was found hanging from a tree in Blue Valley Park near 23rd Street and Topping Avenue.

The nonprofit said that on Friday, June 10, its animal cruelty investigation team received a call reporting the gruesome discovery.

On the scene, officers found “a small black and tan dog laying partially inside a Goodwill shopping bag”, said KC Pet Project.

The furbaby had a rope tied around his snout and his head. Inside the bag was a small rag.

The shelter explained that officers recognized the dog from a picture of a missing dog posted on the Facebook Group “Lost and Found Pets of KC” on June 9.

The VOICELESS VICTIM was identified as Buddy, a 2-year-old terrier mix, and his guardian was Ms. Nancy Morgan.

Ms. Morgan, a great grandmother who lives in an apartment near the park, spoke with FOX 4.

She said the furbaby was named Buddy because he was her best friend. She got him as a puppy about three years ago and he’s always been there for her.

Ms. Morgan explained that she is diabetic and Buddy would alert the family to dips in insulin from diabetes and her falls.

Any kind of problem I had, he was there with me, he barked, he raised the devil”, said Ms. Morgan.

FOX 4 reports that through a mix-up with family, Buddy was left tied up out back while Ms. Morgan was out to dinner. When she returned, she found out that Buddy was gone.

I have no idea why someone would be that mean and do what they did with Buddy”, said a tearful and extremely emotional Ms. Morgan.

If you have any information about Buddy’s death, please do the right thing and speak up for the VOICELESS VICTIM.

Please call KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division TIPS Hotline at 816-701-0101.
