The Evansville Police Department arrested 73-years-old GORDON LEE TERRY (pictured) after he was witnessed dropping his dog several times.

Police said on the early morning of Saturday, May 27, 2023, a witness called after seeing TERRY having trouble standing and falling over multiple times, and picking his dog up and dropping him several times.

Officers responded to the 7000 block of East Walnut Street where the witness told them that she stopped to talk to TERRY and he told her that he was “drunk on some pills.”

The witness told officers that TERRY walked up to the car in the parking lot, dropped his dog onto the pavement, and left. TERRY also left his shoes behind.

Animal control was called in and took custody of the dog.

The furbaby suffered brain damage due to how his body was reacting, and how the pupils looked. He was sadly euthanized.

The Voiceless Victim was microchipped and police were able to track down his guardian, TERRY’s wife. When she was questioned, she confirmed the dog, a 3-year-old Pomeranian mix named Riley, was hers and her husband’s. She told the police her husband had been out looking for Riley after he got loose.

TERRY admitted he knowingly left Riley and that the pair of black shoes officers found at the scene of the incident were his.

TERRY was taken into custody on Saturday, May 27, 2023, and transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail. According to public records, at his initial court appearance, judge Meir set a ridiculous bond of $500 and TERRY was released! The condition of the bond is that “Deft. shall not possess any live animals.”

TERRY is due back in Vanderburgh Superior Court on June 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.

On the early morning of Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the Evansville Fire Department responded to a home in the 200 block of East Iowa Street, just a few blocks away from North Main Street.

WFIE reports that 42-years-old AMANDA KAY DECKARD (pictured), had called 911 to report that she started the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found DECKARD on the porch with cuts to her arms.

Sadly, inside the home, firefighters found three pet lizards who had been beaten to death.

A firefighter sustained minor injuries “when a wooden board fell on him while he fought the fire” and two “neighboring homes were also damaged by the flames”, reports WFIE.

DECKARD is facing three felony counts of torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal and arson. She is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Authorities did not disclose the furbabies’ names, so I took the liberty of naming them Fleur, Leaf, and Lotus for the tribute image. Should their given names be made public, I will rectify them accordingly.

48-years-old MAURICE RICHARD HUFFMAN (pictured) made his first court appearance on March 13, 2023, after officials say that in June 2021, the Evansville Police Department and Animal Control went to investigate his apartment on East Iowa Street.

Authorities learned that HUFFMAN had moved to North Carolina leaving behind two cats and two guinea pigs without any food or water.

Sadly, both guinea pigs were found lifeless. The two cats were alive but looked visibly thin and the vet who examined them said one of the two was dehydrated.

Police say HUFFMAN admitted he didn’t have anyone to care for them.

HUFFMAN faces several counts of animal cruelty and is in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Court records show that HUFFMAN’s hearing is slated to take place on April 5, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.
