On Wednesday afternoon, April 9, a collaboration between different agencies made possible the rescue of a loose goat.

A lady spotted the goat standing in the grass while driving on Route 49 in Marcy.

She then stopped her vehicle and tried to approach the farm animal but the goat ran away under the bridge.

The lady then flagged down a Maynard Fire Department firefighter, Chris Reid, who chased after the goat.

New York State Police and Maynard Fire Department were called in.

Route 49 West was briefly shut down as the Whitesboro Fire Department brought in a ladder truck.

News Channel 2 reports that when the goat was rescued, a resident Ms. Sherrie Hartwell, offered to take the animal and care for him/her until someone came forward to claim the missing goat.

It just so happened that after catching this story on the news, the goat's guardian contacted State Police.

He told troopers that the goat took off from the back of his truck, two weeks ago, when he was unloading cattle for a market in Utica.

Ms. Hartwell asked the owner if she could buy the goat and he accepted.

He sold the goat to Ms. Hartwell for $150.00.

Many thanks to all those involved in the rescue of this precious life.

On April 4, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) wrote in their Facebook post that the owner of a liveaboard vessel anchored in the Manatee Pocket made a desperate plea to rescue his dog after being hospitalized for possible COVID-19.

On April 3, the owner contacted the Sheriff’s Office to advise that he had no choice but to leave behind his German Shepherd named Sassy.

MCSO Marine Unit, in collaboration with Animal Services Officers, put together a plan to rescue the stranded furbaby.

As you can see from the pictures, the team dressed in full personal protective gear.

They then headed out to the vessel, where they boarded the boat and located Sassy.

The German Shepherd was safely removed from the boat and brought back to shore.

Animal Services Officers then transported her to a facility where she will remain until her owner recovers from the illness.

Thank you all so much for rescuing Sassy.

As I repeatedly say these days, our animals need you NOW more than ever!

On Thursday, April 2, the Rochester Fire Department and the Humane Society made a heroic rescue at the Rochester Public Market.

A 2-year-old Beagle named Zeke remained stuck under his dad’s truck after crawling under it.

The Rochester Fire Department wrote in their Facebook post that Zeke had been trapped for an extended period of time and traveled at least 40 miles.

Zeke traveled from Canandaigua because his dad is a vendor at the Rochester Public Market.

Firefighters attempted for several minutes to free the poor furbaby until they eventually reached out to Lollipop Farm.

The shelter sent out staff for assistance.

A responding veterinarian made the decision to sedate Zeke so that he could be safely removed and treated.

He sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover fully.
