VERONICA RENA JACKSON arrested on accusations of starving and failing to provide proper hydration and housing for multiple dogs

- Alabama, USA -

The Montgomery Police Department announced the arrest of 39-year-old VERONICA RENA JACKSON (pictured).

JACKSON is accused of cruelty to a dog in the first degree by starving and failing to provide proper hydration and housing for multiple dogs.

JACKSON was arrested on July 15, 2026, on outstanding warrants for three counts of first degree animal cruelty and two counts of second degree animal cruelty.

The arrest took place on John Overton Drive, on the property of the Montgomery Humane Society. The agency advised through a Facebook post that the arrest did not involve an employee and that it was the result of a collaborative investigation between the Montgomery Police Department and the Montgomery Humane Society’s Humane Officer Division.

WSFA 12 reports that according to court documents, five dogs were removed from JACKSON’s custody.

Steven Tears, Montgomery Humane Society Executive Director, told WSFA 12 that all of the dogs are now in their custody and are being cared for.

The dogs were examined by veterinarians who reported chronic neglect, skin infection, parasites, emaciation, as well as other symptoms.

Mr. Tears explained to WSFA 12 that now the dogs are in the care of the Montgomery Humane Society, the next step is to petition for their custody to get their “ownership” and proceed with the case.

Online arrest records maintained by the Montgomery County Jail show that JACKSON’s bond totaled $36,000 and that she was released after posting it.
