STEPHANIE RAYE MADDUX arrested after a deceased dog found abandoned at a home without water or electricity

- Texas, USA -

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44-year-old STEPHANIE RAYE MADDUX (pictured).

According to the affidavit provided to Voice For Us by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, on May 4, 2025, a deputy was dispatched to a home on 197 Golfview Drive in Hilltop Lakes regarding a deceased dog who was found at the home.

The deputy learned from the reporting party, Mr. James, that he was going through a divorce with MADDUX and that they owned the home.

Mr. James told the deputy that when he went to the home, he discovered that the electricity and the water had been shut off. He then said that he found their dog, a white Maltese, deceased. Mr. James further said he and MADDUX also had two Pitbull mixes.

While the deputy was on the scene, she was approached by a neighbor on a golf cart. The neighbor said MADDUX hadn't lived there for about six months.

The deputy entered the home to investigate a foul odor emitting from the property.

In the dining/kitchen area, the deputy found the deceased Maltese whom she reported had been dead for quite some time.

The furvictim's body was “surrounded by deceased maggots and flies”, stated the affidavit.

The two Pitbull mixes were not located at the home.

The deputy then made contact with MADDUX through a friend.

According to the affidavit, MADDUX told the deputy that she had been hiding out somewhere else as she was in a lawsuit with her in-laws. The deputy explained the complaint was submitted by her husband and not her in-laws. MADDUX told the deputy “how would they know there is a deceased dog in there, there isn't one in there.” At that point the deputy asked MADDUX when was last time she saw the dog alive but MADDUX was unable to give an exact date and said the last time she had been at the home was before May 3, 2025.

The deputy determined that MADDUX intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly tortured and in a cruel manner killed the dog by leaving him/her locked in a residence with no food or water or electricity.

According to the booking report provided to Voice For Us, MADDUX was arrested on May 29, 2025, and released the following day after posting a $7,500 bail.

The affidavit did not include additional information regarding the furvictim. I took the liberty of naming the Voiceless Victim Angel for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
