My heart aches for 40-year-old Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton (pictured), a British Formula 1 driver for Ferrari.
A heartbroken Lewis announced the death of Roscoe (also pictured), “a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.”
Lewis adopted the handsome Bulldog Roscoe in 2013, and they were each other’s shadow. Roscoe would regularly go to work with his dad Lewis. Countless pictures and videos testify how Roscoe has been a regular feature in the F1 paddock, at major events such as awards ceremonies, and show him walking the pitlane.
Roscoe passed away in his dad’s arms on the evening of September 28, 2025. Lewis explained that Roscoe “caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma.”
He later announced: “After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end. I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”
Lewis stated that putting Roscoe to sleep was one of the most “painful experiences” and expressed his deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved furbaby.
Lewis was overwhelmed by the incredible amount of support he has received since Roscoe’s passing as innumerable messages flooded his social media accounts.
Lewis was amazed to realize how much Roscoe touched people and meant to them.
“The kind messages that I've received have been really uplifting, so I'm really grateful for that. Anyone out there that knows what it's like to lose a pet, you know how painful it is. I read somewhere that grief is the last act of love, and I'm definitely feeling that,” stated Lewis.
Roscoe would have turned 13 years old on October 24, 2025.
I am angry and indignant at the way the relationship between Lewis and Roscoe was handled at the popular TV show La Vita in Diretta on the Italian national broadcaster Rai. Its host, Alberto Matano, ONCE AGAIN, lacked sympathy and empathy toward animals’ issues.
