The SPCA Westchester is facing one more horrific case and needs donations to save yet another precious life.
The agency explained in a Facebook post that one female dog, who was named Hope by staff, was found “wandering in the woods of Katonah and rushed into the SPCA, where she almost immediately collapsed.”
Hope was suffering from severe heat stroke among other issues. Her body temperature was 108 degrees while “a normal range for an adult dog is around 101-102”, said the SPCA.
Hope began shrieking in pain as she was placed on the examination table, and it was apparent to the veterinarian team that heat stroke was not the only concern to be dealt with.
Hope’s body was also severely matted so staff shaved her and poured tepid water on her to lower her temperature.
Hope’s condition did not cease to horrify staff. They further discovered that the poor soul was covered in deep bloody wounds. Moreover, “hundreds, if not thousands, of maggots began pouring out of her”, said the SPCA.
Additionally, a large portion of Hope's back is necrotic, “meaning the skin and tissue are dead due to untreated injuries and massive infection”, explained the SPCA.
The organization said in order to remove all of the dead skin and tissue, complicated and lengthy surgeries are required, and that’s Hope’s only chance to survive and begin a new life!
Furthermore, Hope may also need “skin grafts to transplant healthy skin onto her wounded areas in order to heal.”
It’s unknown at this point what happened to Hope before being rescued. It possible that she lived with someone who neglected her and then abandoned her or maybe Hope is just another sad case of an innocent homeless animal.
Either way, Hope deserves a new life filled with love and we can make that happen!
