SHUNKAVIOUS NELSON arrested on animal cruelty charges and suspicion of auto theft

On January 7, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a call about a stolen vehicle on Wimpole Hall Drive in Arlington.


Several witnesses saw individuals walking in the area and pulling on vehicle door handles.


One of the callers, told police that one of the suspects appeared armed with a small handgun.


Responding deputies observed two of the suspects flee into the wooded area.


Two SCSO K9 teams tracked down one of them.


When he was asked by deputies to exit the area, he refused.


A K9 was released to go after the suspect who then struck the K9 multiple times.


The K9 held onto the suspect identified as 19-year-old SHUNKAVIOUS NELSON (pictured below).


According to the Sheriff’s Office, a second K9 team searched the area.


NELSON was arrested and a small handgun, which had been reported stolen, was recovered.


NELSON was arrested on animal cruelty, theft from a motor vehicle, weapons law violations, stolen property, and simple assault charges.
