RONALD WELDON charged with animal cruelty for atrociously beating his dog unable to fight back

- New York, USA -

An animal cruelty incident that occurred back in April 2025, led to 49-year-old RONALD WELDON, of Middle Island, being charged with animal cruelty.

The Suffolk County SPCA said the charge follows an investigation into the abuse of a defenseless dog, a 4-year-old male German Shepherd named Bennie.

The agency explained in a press release that “for no justifiable reason,” WELDON repeatedly punched Bennie “intermittently with a closed fist several times while holding him down on the ground.” According to the agency, “Bennie at times struggled to get up off the ground and yelped in pain.”

Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, charged WELDON with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

On January 22, 2026, SPCA detectives issued WELDON a Field Appearance Ticket. WELDON is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on February 2, 2026.
