RICHARD PEREZ charged with animal cruelty - One of his dogs was euthanized due to long-time neglect

- Connecticut, USA -

The Ledyard Police Department charged 34-years-old RICHARD PEREZ (pictured) with cruelty to animals.

According to the Department press release obtained by Voice For Us, police received a report of suspected animal abuse from the Groton-Ledyard Veterinary Hospital on Lorenz Parkway, on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Once at the hospital, the responding officer met with a Ledyard Animal Control Officer who had spoken to a veterinarian.

Police learned that PEREZ had brought in a dog for treatment. The dog was so malnourished and extremely emaciated to the extent that vets deemed him beyond medical care and the Voiceless Victim was sadly euthanized.

Police tell me the dog was a 9-year-old Boston terrier named Max.

PEREZ had another dog whom police promptly removed from his apartment given the condition the furvictim was in. Ledyard Police told me in an email that dog’s name is Oreo and that PEREZ signed him over to Ledyard Animal Control.

PEREZ, of 8 Flintlock Road, Apt H in Ledyard, is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on November 20, 2023.
