DURWOOD HAWKINS arrested following investigation into video showing sex acts with family dog
- North Carolina, USA -
The warrant describes the dog as having been "sexually assaulted." I strongly disagree with that terminology. I firmly believe that the act should be called what it is: RAPE, and that the offense should be charged and prosecuted accordingly.
The Craven County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 79-year-old DURWOOD HAWKINS (pictured) of Loftin Farm Road, Dover.
The Sheriff's Office said in a press release that on November 5, 2026, its Criminal Investigation Bureau launched an investigation into reports of "an explicit video involving a male subject and a dog."
According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025.
After reviewing the video, investigators identified HAWKINS as the suspect, prompting authorities to execute a search warrant at his residence.
According to the Sheriff's Office, investigators seized "various items of evidence" during the search. Authorities also took the family dog involved in the incident, a brown Pitbull, into protective custody.
An arrest warrant shows that on November 5, 2026, HAWKINS was charged with one felony count of crime against nature for "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously" committing "the abominable and detestable crime against nature with" a brown Pitbull.
HAWKINS was also charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals for "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously" committing cruelty to animals "by sexually assaulting" a Pitbull "by inserting his penis" into the Pitbull's anus.
HAWKINS was booked into the Craven County Detention Center. On November 6, 2026, he appeared in Craven County District Court before Judge William David McFadyen III, who set bond at $75,000.
At the time of writing, online arrest records indicate that HAWKINS remains in custody.
