REWARD offered in the case of a puppy found severely burned in Castle Hayne

- North Carolina, USA -

Despite the $5,000 award offered by PETA in exchange for information, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a dog who was found severely burned in Castle Hayne.

On Friday morning, March 27, a Good Samaritan called the Sheriff’s Office after finding a 6- to 8-week-old brown puppy on a secluded dirt road off Holly Shelter Road in Castle Hayne.

The furbaby had severe burns on his face, legs and body.

He was named Oscar by his rescuers.

PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien said: “Someone dumped this little dog, who was likely scared and in tremendous pain from the burns covering his body, on the side of the road.”

On April 30, the Sheriff’s Office posted the following update on their Facebook page:

Oscar is still healing from his injuries and is doing well. He just completed his very first routine vet visit with his regular veterinarian. He was greeted with lots of hugs, love and treats. He received his first puppy vaccinations and is now on flea and heart worm preventative. His doctor took photos of his mouth and teeth and will be monitoring him as his permanent teeth come in. He will need dental surgeries in the future so that he can eat and chew as normal as possible. His Orthopedic and Plastic surgeon will be monitoring him as he grows to assess if future surgeries are required as well. He is a very friendly guy and loves everyone. His foster mom says he’s a full out puppy and is loving life.”

If anyone recognizes the puppy or has information related to this case, please come forward and speak up!
