Police investigate the death of an innocent stray kitten believed to be victim of animal cruelty

- Florida, USA -

The Miami Beach Police Department is investigating the senseless death of an innocent stray kitten.

On the morning of Thursday, September 23, police received a call about a deceased cat in the area of 1521 Euclid Avenue and officers who were dispatched to the scene “determined it may have a victim of animal cruelty”, stated a news release.

Miami New Times reports that Blakery Ross was walking her mini Poodle when she “stumbled across a calico kitten lying on its side next to a large scattering of kibble and a plastic water dish. At first she thought the kitten was asleep, but as she moved closer, she realized the cat was dead.”

There was a note taped over the kitten’s corpse that read: “FEEDING THE CATS IS PROHIBITED IN THIS PROPERTY!!! CAMERAS ARE ALWAYS RECORDING! THIS IS A PRIVATE PROPERTY. DO NOT FEED THE CATS!!!!”

Ms. Ross couldn't immediately discern how the kitten died as the furbaby did not present obvious injuries, but, given the note taped across the kitten’s body, and the cat food scattered next to the furbaby, she thought someone deliberately poisoned the kitten so, just to be safe, she rightfully emptied the water dish and collected the cat food in a plastic bag.

It was Ms. Ross who then called the police and took a picture of the furbaby and posted it on Facebook.

The officer who took her statement told her that the case constituted animal cruelty, a third-degree felony punishable up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Police say the lifeless furbaby was taken to a local animal hospital for preservation and was later collected by Miami-Dade Animal Services for a full necropsy.

Detectives are working collaboratively with Miami Dade Animal Services to determine the cause of death.

As reported by Miami New Times, Linda Diamond, president of Sobe Cats and chair of the City of Miami Beach Animal Welfare Committee, says the kitten's death is only the latest incident in a growing tension between residents and registered feeders in the community, and that she's aware of three cats who died of unnatural causes on the Miami Beach boardwalk near 45th Street.

If you have information regarding this case, please, come forward and speak up for the VOICELESS VICTIM and contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) - 471 - 8477. Thank you!

Stray animals constantly struggle to find shelter in extreme weather conditions, they struggle to find food, they are exposed to abuse, traffic hazards, and much more!

You don’t have to love animals, you don’t have to feel sorry for them, but at least do not hurt them!!!
