MICHAEL E. WALTERS JR. arrested after dog dies who was also victim of a mix up at a groomer

- Louisiana, USA -

On the morning of September 7, a Monroe dog grooming business groomed two small dogs who looked similar in appearance.

The guardian of one of the two dogs sent her mother to the groomer to pick up her dog but the mother was given the wrong one. The mother did not realize that the furbaby given to her wasn’t her daughter’s so she left and went to her daughter’s home on 429 Rowland Road in Monroe.

Once at the residence, the mix up was discovered and the daughter asked her son to return the wrong dog to the groomer.

The son is the witness in this case.

The witness’ cousin, 45-years-old MICHAEL E. WALTERS JR. (pictured below), picked up the eight-pound pooch to take him/her to his car.

The furbaby must have been terrified and nervous in a new environment with unfamiliar people, so he/she bit WALTERS in the right index finger.

WALTERS put him/her down and started punching the pup repeatedly with his fist.

When the poor dog tried to run away, WALTERS then kicked the furbaby.

The witness then picked up the pooch to return him/her to the groomer but ended up at the wrong grooming business which also happened to be a veterinary clinic.

The veterinarian testified that she did not examine the dog but saw that there was something physically wrong with the pooch.

Sadly, when the dog was finally returned to the original groomer where the mix up happened, he/she died.

According to the arrest report, when WALTERS was questioned by Ouachita Parish Sheriff deputies, he told them that the dog bit his finger and wouldn’t let it go so, he repeatedly hit the pooch until he/she released the finger.

The witness, however, gave a different version of the facts and stated that the dog did not latch on WALTERS’ finger and that WALTERS started punching the pooch immediately.

WALTERS then declined to answer any other questions or to make any other statements.

WALTERS was placed under arrest and booked at the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of aggravated animal cruelty and one count of failure to appear.

Online records show WALTERS bonded out of jail the following day.
