MICHAEL ALBERT TURNER arrested after one dead dog and six severely malnourished ones were found at a Bell County home

I reached out to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office to inquire about the dogs, but as I expected, given that the investigation is still active, no additional details could be released. Mr. Cliff Coleman, spokesperson for the Department, shared that TURNER did not provide the dogs’ ages, names, or sexes. TURNER said the dogs were of “mixed breed.”

With regard to the furvictim who was found deceased, I learned that “A necropsy was not performed” and that “Based on the investigation, the dog's death is believed to have resulted from inadequate care.”

Mr. Coleman told me that none of the six living dogs were euthanized and that they all “remain in the care, custody, and control of Bell County Animal Control, where they are continuing to receive evaluation and care.”

I requested pictures of the furvictims, but Mr. Coleman said, “After consultation with the Bell County Attorney's Office, we have been advised that releasing photographs of the dogs at this time could be prejudicial to the pending case. Therefore, we are unable to release those images.”

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office reports that on July 26, 2026, the department received a report from a concerned citizen regarding the welfare of multiple dogs at a property on 335 Oakalla Loop, south of Killeen.

Deputies were dispatched to the given address to investigate and upon arrival, they found six dogs “in severe health condition”, said the sheriff’s office. Sadly, deputies also located a deceased dog.

According to the arrest warrant, the six living dogs were “severely malnourished with visible ribs, hips and spinal columns.” The warrant further stated that “the only water available to the animals appeared to be green, stagnant and contaminated.”

The sheriff’s office said that the surviving dogs were taken by an animal rescue organization to receive much needed care.

Investigators determined that 57-year-old MICHAEL ALBERT TURNER (pictured) was the dogs’ guardian. The following day, July 27, 2026, the findings of the investigation were submitted to Justice of the Peace Michael Tice who then issued seven arrest warrants.

TURNER was arrested and charged with seven counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals. He was booked into the Bell County Jail and bond was set at $35,000.
