MAKAYLA MCDONALD and STEVEN OWENSBY arrested - Malnourished and dead animals found inside their home

- Georgia, USA -

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office said that 27-years-old MAKAYLA MCDONALD and 29-years-old STEVEN OWENSBY (both pictured), stand accused of animal cruelty following the discovery of a hoarding case.

On Saturday, June 25, a deputy made the discovery while looking for a suspect at 1906 Blossom Road on an unrelated case.

The sheriff’s office said that while the deputy was searching the residence, he noticed “several malnourished and dead animals inside.”

Walker County Animal Control, the Walker County Animal Shelter, and Walker County Fire Rescue were called in and assisted with the removal of 13 animals, including, 4 chickens, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 ducks, and 2 rabbits.

Officials also removed the remains of 15 dead animals.

I asked the sheriff’s office what animals were found deceased and whether the cause of death was known. The sheriff’s office tells me that: “Our employees were able to identify dog and rabbit remains among the deceased. The causes of death have not been officially reported, but there were a number of issues.”

I also inquired about the well-being of the live animals who were removed and I was told: “All of the animals removed from 1906 Blossom Road are in various stages of recovery.”

The sheriff’s office also told me that: “Since this is an active criminal investigation, we are not at liberty to share pictures of any of the animals.”

MCDONALD and OWENSBY face charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and additional charges are pending.
