The Collier County Sheriff’s Office announced that on Wednesday, April 7, deputies arrested 26-year-old LUIS HERIN (pictured below).
Deputies say HERIN repeatedly abused two kittens, including one who had to be put down due the injuries he sustained.
HERIN, of 837 93rd Avenue N. Unit B in Naples, was arrested at his workplace and charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
The Sheriff’s Office said the charges stem from separate incidents that happened at his home in 2020, between March1, and October 19.
According to arrest reports, a 7-month-old kitten named Ruby was taken for treatment to Naples Cat Alliance by a friend of HERIN’s girlfriend.
NBC2 identifies the friend’s name as Rachel Lohr.
According to Ms. Lohr, her friend told her that HERIN was abusing her and Ruby.
Ms. Lohr then insisted to get Ruby checked out, reports NBC2.
Megan Sorbara, President of the Naples Cat Alliance took Ruby to the Harborside Animal Clinic.
A veterinary examination by Dr. Eisle revealed that Ruby had nine broken ribs, two breaks in her tail, a de-gloved lower lip, contusions behind her ear, an injury to her jaw, and abraded skin on one paw.
The vet found the injuries to be consistent with abuse.
Ruby was also found to be underweight.
Ms. Sorbara filed a police report with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Ruby was placed into a foster home.
During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that prior to Ruby, HERIN and his girlfriend had a 4-month-old kitten named Hunter.
Hunter was also subjected to serious injuries at the hands of HERIN.
Hunter at some point was transported to an emergency veterinarian to be treated for life-threatening injuries and later euthanized.
Ms. Lohr said: “It’s just terrifying to know that someone I once called my best friend was watching her boyfriend do this to cats. I don’t wish that on anyone ever.”
HERIN was booked into Naples Jail Center.
Online records show that HERIN has a court date scheduled for May 3, 2021.
Voice For Us believes that LUIS HERIN is a filthy coward who took out his frustrations on tiny breathing beings who could not fight back and could not call 911 to report the SENSELESS abuse they suffered.
Animal abusers are not entitled to have a place in a civil society among humane people.
What does it take for judges and the law to see this!?
