An appalling video circulated widely on social media in which a female can be seen pouring bleach on cat food in a Chester neighborhood, Delaware County.
According to WPVI, the video was promptly reported to the Pennsylvania SPCA which launched an investigation.
Investigators have identified the female as 35-year-old LAUREN ASHLEY CARTER (pictured), of Chester.
Court records show that two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty were filed against CARTER on May 28, 2026.
The photos in the gallery below are screenshots of the video in question that was shared by The Kris Kelly Foundation on their Facebook page.
WPVI reported that the video was filmed by a family back in April and later went viral. According to the news agency, the cat who can be seen in the video sniffing the bleach, a 16-year-old named Jumper, “appeared unharmed when found at his home.”
Jumper’s mom, Ms. Olivia Oliver, told WPVI: “I appreciate everybody who stepped up because this is an old cat, and he deserves to die of old age. Not being tortured or poisoned.”
The criminal complaint stated that CARTER admitted to the authorities to pouring bleach on cat food on two occasions, although it is not clear why she did it (not that it matters!).
According to court records, CARTER’s preliminary arraignment is set to take place on June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Wilden H. Davis.
Gillian Kocher, Director of Public Relations & Marketing for the Pennsylvania SPCA told KYW Newsradio: “We do believe based on our investigation that no animals did consume the food. Our officers went out through the area to make sure that no animals were sick or deceased, but it is, of course, our intention that this doesn't happen again, and the animals in the neighborhood are kept safe.”
