The Grayson County Sheriff's Office reported that an animal cruelty investigation resulted in the rescue of thirty-nine horses and the arrest of 75-year-old JIMMY PERRY GRADY (pictured).
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities began investigating a possible animal mistreatment case at GRADY’s property in the 2600 block of US-82 near Sherman several weeks ago.
As part of the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at the property during which investigators discovered many malnourished horses who were lacking access to food, water, and shelter.
A total of thirty-nine horses were removed from the property and taken to “trained animal care professionals who will provide the veterinary attention, nutrition, and ongoing care they require”, said the sheriff’s office.
Investigators identified GRADY as the suspect involved in the case and arrested him on June 18, 2026. GRADY was booked into the Grayson County Jail on five counts of cruelty to livestock animals. Jail records show he was released the following day.
Additional charges could be possible as the investigation continue.
Lisa DiBenedetto, who worked for an associate of GRADY, told KXII: “I am thankful that someone finally went and stepped in for those horses because they don’t deserve it.”
Ms. DiBenedetto shared pictures of some of the horses on her Facebook account.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office said: “We’re proud of the dedication our personnel displayed throughout this operation and thankful for all of our partners who helped give these animals a second chance. Sometimes protecting our community means protecting those who cannot protect themselves.”
