JESSICA DESHOMME arrested after her dog was found dead in a wire cage without food or water in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old JESSICA DESHOMME (pictured).

According to an arrest report, on June 27, 2026, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 2400 block of 43rd Street Southwest in Naples to investigate a report of a deceased dog in the backyard.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 2-year-old black female Terrier Bully named Sparkle inside an outdoor cage.

“The dog was in direct sunlight with no water on a day that reached temperatures exceeding 100 degrees,” the report states.

The arrest report states that the cage door was wired so tightly that it took deputies and Domestic Animal Services personnel approximately 30 minutes to open the cage and remove the deceased dog.

According to the report, one witness took a video of Sparkle before calling 911. The video showed Sparkle still alive inside the cage and panting heavily.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office said deputies learned from multiple neighbors that Sparkle “had been kept locked inside the cage, day and night, countless times for months through all types of weather.”

DESHOMME, who was identified as Sparkle’s guardian, relinquished all rights of ownership of the deceased animal to Collier County Domestic Animal Services.

A necropsy was performed on Sparkle. Erica Unz, a veterinarian with Domestic Animal Services, concluded that Sparkle’s death was consistent with acute heat stress/hyperthermia associated with confinement without access to water. The necropsy also identified gastrointestinal hemorrhage (melena) as a possible contributing or independent factor, although its cause was undetermined.

DESHOMME was arrested on September 1, 2026, and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. She was later released from the Naples Jail Center after posting bond.

Court records show that DESHOMME’s arraignment is scheduled for September 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said in a written statement: “This is a heartbreaking case, and no animal should ever have to suffer the way Sparkle did. I commend the Patrol deputies who responded to the scene and carefully gathered witness statements, as well as the detectives with our Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance for their thorough investigation. Their work ultimately led to this arrest, and this individual will now be held accountable for the cruel and negligent treatment of her pet.”
