Investigation underway after two helpless dogs were left tied to a post exposed to the summer heat

- Georgia, USA -

Athens-Clarke police are investigating after two dogs were abandoned and left tethered to a post in the summer heat.

OnlineAthens reports that the furbabies, an English Bulldog and a German Shepherd mix, were discovered by animal control workers outside the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services facility on Buddy Christian Way on Friday, May 21.

Police officer Dara Deckert wrote in her report that “It was very hot (about 85 degrees) and the dogs did not have any water.”

When she arrived, she found the dogs were panting heavily and their temperature had reached 104 degrees.

The Bulldog was drooling excessively and appeared to have trouble breathing.

Given the condition the poor dogs were in, it was necessary to transport them to the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine and were kept overnight.

Upon examination, a vet reported that both dogs suffered hypothermia and the Bulldog nearly went into heatstroke.

The German Shepherd mix is a 6 years-old male now named Glenny, and the English Bulldog is a male believed to be almost 7 years old named Chubbs.

As reported by OnlineAthens, Chubbs and Glenny are now available for adoption.

I have checked the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government website and I was able to find Glenny in the list of dogs available for adoption.

According to OnlineAthens, police said that animal control are expected to see whether security camera footage shows who abandoned Chubbs and Glenny.

If you recognize the furbabies or have information regarding this case, please call Athens-Clarke Police at (706) - 613 - 3888. Thank you!
