Investigation underway after a stray dog is senselessly, cruelly, and cowardly shot

- Texas, USA -

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a stray dog was shot in La Villa on Saturday, May 22.

KRGV reports that the person who witnessed the incident wishes to remain anonymous and explained that she saw a man who asked his wife to give him a gun and after she handed the weapon to him he SENSELESSLY and CRUELLY shot at the furbaby.

The dog walked away in excruciating pain after being shot and the witness reached out to the animal rescue PA Pitstop in Pennsylvania.

The dog has now been named Pearl and her medical bills are being taken care of by PA Pitstop thanks to donations.

Pearl is being treated at the Rams Wellness Clinic in McAllen.

In an update posted on May 23, PA Pitstop wrote that Pearl’s injured leg will have to be amputated. The doctor has her stabilized and put her on pain management.

The nonprofit wrote: “The office staff love her and say she is the sweetest dog and doesn’t deserve this. She is wagging her tail and resting.”

As I was checking the PA Pitstop Facebook page for updates on Pearl, I came across a post that was shared from The Kris Kelly Foundation.

In that post, the shooter was identified as MATTHEW RANGEL, and his wife as DIANA RANGEL.

According to the post by The Kris Kelly Foundation, the incident happened “behind the home 4308 mile 17 1/2 North Road La Villa, Texas 78562.”

KRGV reports that the shooting took place off of Pablo Garza Service Road.

So far, no arrests have been made regarding this case of animal abuse.
