EDDIE LUKE GORETCKI arrested for killing a defenseless rabbit

- Florida, USA -

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in connection with an animal cruelty incident that happened in May.

ABC7 reports that according to a probable cause affidavit, a man living in the 3700 block of Brazilnut Avenue called deputies to report that his roommate had killed his daughter’s pet rabbit.

Deputies identified the roommate as 42-years-old EDDIE LUKE GORETCKI (pictured below).

The complainant explained to deputies while he was looking for the rabbit who had been allowed to freely roam the back yard, GORETCKI walked up to him carrying a box.

Inside the box was the rabbit, lifeless.

Witnesses interviewed by deputies, stated that GORETCKI said the rabbit should be killed because he/she had bitten his daughter.

One of the witnesses told deputies they saw GORETCKI “acting weird” and holding the rabbit for 20 minutes when he pushed the rabbit’s face into his armpit and clamped down on the animal until the animal stopped kicking.

The poor creature was taken to a veterinary clinic for a necropsy and the veterinarian who conducted the exam said the rabbit sustained at least four broken ribs, a broken leg, and his/her diaphragm was not intact.

The vet added that the death was cruel and inflicted unnecessary pain.

Deputies arrested GORETCKI on September 12.

He was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and online logs list the charge as Conservation-Animals: Torture/ Inflict Pain/Serious Physical Injury/ Death.

Bond was set at $25,000 bond.

On an unrelated issue, GORETCKI was arrested in April 2020, with two other males following theft of copper wire from subcontractors who were conducting business in the City of Sarasota.
