DALTON JONES arrested for neglecting his dog who died of hunger

- Florida, USA -

On Saturday, January 23, the Boca Raton Police Department arrested DALTON JONES (pictured below) on animal cruelty charges.

According to a police report obtained by BocaNewsNow, JONES was facing financial hardship and as a result, he would feed his dog named Yara, weekly.

Yara, a 2-year-old mix breed, was being kept in a crate and was not allowed outside on a regular basis.

The police report states that JONES, of the 21700 block of Town Lakes Drive in Boca Raton, took the furbaby to Calusa Animal Hospital last week.

Veterinarians found Yara to be emaciated and unable to walk.

Despite the worrying scenario doctors believed Yara would survive.

Sadly, sweet Yara passed away on January 21, due to her condition.

The hospital then alerted Boca Raton Police.

The veterinarian at the Calusa Animal Hospital who examined Yara determined that her bones and internal anatomy were visible consistent with emaciation from not eating.

BocaNewsNow reports that the doctor rated the furbaby 5 on the on the Tuft’s Animal Care and Condition Scale of 1 being health and 5 being emaciated.

JONES stated that ever since he adopted Yara he had been the sole guardian.

He admitted that personal circumstances prevented him from taking care of her describing the situation as “neglect.”

JONES explained that he would feed Yara weekly and sometimes leave her in a crate for days.

He even admitted that at a time he would not even let Yara out for a walk or to go potty.

Animal shelters constantly send appeals out to inform furbabies’ parents that they are always willing to help out those who face difficult times and cannot properly care for their furbabies.

Neglect and/or abandonment are under NO circumstances an option!

On Saturday, January 23, JONES was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

The following day, at his first court appearance, a judge found probable cause and set bond at $5,000 which JONES was able to post.

A court date is pending.
