CURTIS RIST arrested after five dogs were found in deplorable conditions

- New York, USA -

The Greenport Police Department received a complaint from a concerned citizen about dogs in a yard who were being kept in a “terrible condition.”

According to the complainant, the dogs’ coats were so matted they could barely move.

Police responded to the residence of 63-year-old CURTIS RIST (pictured) and found five mini Goldendoodles, ranging in age from four to ten years old, all in deplorable conditions.

Officers then contacted the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (CGHS/SPCA) for assistance.

In a news release, CGHS/SPCA said that RIST agreed to surrender all five dogs to the nonprofit.

Once the voiceless victims arrived at the shelter, they were examined by shelter staff and a veterinarian. Two of the five dogs needed immediate attention.

CGHS/SPCA said that one of the dogs, a 5-year-old named Wally, was so matted that he was described as an “exoskeleton.” Wally was anesthetized during the shaving procedure, which took two hours, due to the pain he would have had to endure.

The good news is that all dogs are expected to fully recover and will be placed up for adoption.

RIST was arrested on Monday, February 20, 2023, on two counts of animal cruelty.
