CHRISTOPHER HOWARD COOK arrested on accusations of kicking a dog that later died

The Stafford Township Police Department announced the arrest of 40-year-old CHRISTOPHER HOWARD COOK (pictured) of Manahawkin.

According to a police press release, on July 24, 2026, officers responded to a residence in Manahawkin regarding the death of a dog.

The initial investigation determined that COOK had kicked the dog, after which the dog died a short time later.

The Stafford Township Police Department Detective Bureau, in conjunction with Stafford Township Animal Control, conducted a further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dog’s death.

As a result of the investigation, COOK was charged with third-degree animal cruelty on August 20, 2026. Two days later, he turned himself in to the Ocean County Jail. COOK was subsequently released pending further court proceedings.

Authorities have not released further details about the incident. I contacted Stafford Township Animal Control to inquire about the dog, but Chief Animal Control Officer Kelly Karch declined to provide any information, stating: “We are unable to release any information regarding the case.”
