Chimpanzee forced to ride a bike while wearing a surgical mask and human clothes to spray sanitizer

- Thailand -

A heartbreaking video from the Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo is causing outrage and indignation.

The footage filmed Saturday, April 11, shows a zoo member of staff tossing some clothes to a chimpanzee who is tied to a short chain.

Then, the poor primate can be seen wearing a surgical face mask, denim shorts, and an orange Hawaiian shirt as he pedals a children's bicycle with disinfectant tanks strapped to the back.

This is not the first time that the zoo faces a backlash.

For many years campaigners have been trying to have it shut down after repeated cases of emaciated elephants being abused, bears rocking back-and-forth nervously while stuck in filthy pools and malnourished crocodiles among other instances of abuse.

Animal rights group PETA investigators have documented several incidents of animals being abused and beaten with bamboo sticks.

PETA described the zoo as a “hell hole.”

yahoo news reports that Spokesman Nirali Shah said: ''Places like Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo are hellholes where animals like this chimpanzee endure miserable lives in captivity every single day. They're routinely mistreated and know little more than chains. When they're not used for human 'entertainment', they're held in cramped cages.''

Ms. Shah also added: ''Despite multiple attempts to contact Samutprakarn, the zoo's management has never responded. PETA submitted the investigative findings to the Thai police and lodged an official complaint with authorities, urging them to inspect the zoo.''
