Arrest made in the case of dogs allowed to maul a cat to death while their guardian was watching

- California, USA -

On Tuesday, April 14, Merced Police animal control responded to a report about two dogs attacking a cat.

The incident happened at Foothill Drive and G. St.

Originally, Merced Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that when officers arrived at the scene, the dogs, their guardians and the deceased cat were missing.

The Department also wrote that: “A bystander obtained video of the incident showing the animals and owners involved. During the violent attack, the dogs were off leash and the owners made no attempt to intervene and stop the attack. We are asking for your help in identifying the subjects involved so we may contact them regarding the incident.”

According to an update on the case posted by the Department on April 15, the owner of the dogs made contact with the Merced Police Department.

MPD also clarified that the male subject that appeared in the pictures (2nd picture), was determined to be a witness and had no legal standing to the dogs.

The dogs were taken to the Merced County Shelter, where they were placed in mandatory quarantine.

The case is still under investigation.
