The Knox County Sheriff’s Office announced that two male subjects have been arrested in connection with the torture inflicted on a defenseless cat that was filmed and posted to social media.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said that on the morning of Friday, August 18, 2023, the department received a call alerting them to the incident. Deputies Jesse Smith and Lt. Sam Mullins were able to identify one of the two individuals, 20-years-old GABRIEL MESSER (pictured), based on his tattoos. MESSER was already behind bars as he had been arrested earlier that week on criminal abuse of a juvenile charges.

Deputy Smith and Lt. Mullins then questioned MESSER at the Knox County Detention Center and he told them that he had stabbed the cat but it was the idea of the other party.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identity of the second individual in the case because he is a juvenile.

According to the release, MESSER claimed “he was going to kill the cat and wanted toput it out of [its] misery’.”

After interviewing MESSER, Deputy Smith and Lt. Mullins went to the juvenile’s residence to question him about the incident and he placed the blame on MESSER.

The investigation into this disturbing case determined that the juvenile was the individual filming the sickening act and laughing in the video. He was arrested and transported to the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center. He is charged with torture of a dog or cat and criminal mischief first degree.

The charges against MESSER in relation to this case are animal cruelty and criminal mischief.

MESSER is being held on a $5,500 cash bond.

The sheriff’s office said that the cat’s guardian confirmed the cat seen in the video was hers and added that she had other animals, including a dog who was found stabbed in a similar manner behind her home in a creek.

The sheriffs’ office said that additional charges are pending.

I have emailed the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to inquire about both furvictims and in an email I was told: “Since this case is an ongoing investigation, we only released the arrest information in the press release at this time.”

On the evening of Tuesday, August 15, 2023, deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Abbott Avenue in Deltona, after receiving a request for assistance from Deltona Animal Control.

In a press release, the sheriff's office explained that earlier that day, Animal Control officers took into custody two dogs after they had escaped their pen at the Abbott Avenue residence.

The two dogs are identified as a black female named Dolly, and a golden tan female named Buttercup.

According to the press release, “The officers were already familiar with the dogs from past escapes, but noticed their physical condition was worse than in the past.”

The sheriff’s office said that both Dolly and Buttercup were underweight, but Buttercup’s condition was “visibly concerning.” Buttercup’s hip bones, shoulder blades, and other bones were sticking out.

At the residence, officials found a third dog, a black male named Joker.

Investigators reported that “all bowls in the dogs’ enclosure were completely dry. A deputy found a hose and used it to provide Joker some water.”

As mentioned in the press release, that week temperatures climbed to 108 degrees.

Investigators interviewed the dogs’ guardian, 26-years-old ZACHARY MICHAEL CRAIN (pictured) and he said that “he had not bought food in about 5 weeks due to financial constraints.” In the video published by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, an animal control officer can be heard asking CRAIN: “When was last time that you, umm you weren’t able to like or that you actually gave them food?” To that, CRAIN answered: “The last time I gave them food would have been two or three days ago.” Please note how well-fed CRAIN looks !

A deputy then bought a large bag of Pedigree and personally took it to the residence. As stated in the press release, “The response to that gesture was captured in the attached body camera video.” Sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant was too nice to comment on what happened but I do not have any problems telling you that CRAIN’s wife, who opened the door, called the deputy a “shitty cop” in the presence of her children!

The sheriff’s office said that deputies conducted a walk-through of the home to confirm that the kids were receiving proper nutrition and care and “Plenty of food was observed in the pantry and refrigerator. Pizza was also delivered to the house while deputies were on scene.”

Deputies arrested CRAIN on Tuesday evening and booked him into the Volusia County Jail on three felony counts of animal cruelty and three misdemeanor counts of unlawful confinement/abandonment of animals without sufficient food or water. He was released after posting a $9,000 bail.

Deltona Animal Control officers took in the Voiceless Victims who are now finally receiving all the care they need, deserve, and should have been given by their so-called family!

Court records show that CRAIN’s hearing is slated to take place on September 7, 2023, at 2:45 p.m.

It’s unclear whether charges will be filed also against CRAIN’s wife. I will email the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to inquire.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office advised: “Rather than cause pain and suffering to animals, and to avoid the risk of criminal charges, anyone who is unable to provide their animals with proper nutrition, care, or shelter is encouraged to contact Animal Control, Animal Services or a reputable rescue organization to arrange for a surrender.”

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard announced the arrest of 31-years-old JAMIE LAWRENCE GOULD (pictured).

In a news release, Sheriff Allard said that on August 11, 2023, deputies responded to a report about a male dragging a puppy.

After reaching out to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, I learned the following:

Mr. Gould had obtained the puppy the day of his arrest on 08/11/2023 from an unknown source. Shortly after obtaining the puppy, he was seen with the puppy in the Town of Bath. Several witnesses reported that Mr. Gould was dragging the puppy on a leash, which was wrapped around the puppy[‘s] neck with no collar. He was also seen by the witnesses tossing the puppy to the ground from waist level. His actions did injure the puppy.”

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office tells me that two members of the sheriff’s office quickly removed the puppy and immediately took the furbaby to a local vet. The puppy was found to be injured.

The email from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office stated that GOULD “willingly turned the puppy over and is currently in foster care.” I further learned that the Voiceless Victim is a male and has been renamed Sargent. It is believed that Sargent is between 6-8 weeks old. The good news is that Sargent has since fully recovered and is doing well.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office alleges that GOULD, of State Route 415, Bath, New York, “unlawfully possessed a controlled substance.”

GOULD was arrested and charged with Torturing or Injuring an Animal and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

He was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office tells me that at this time the investigation is still pending, so no additional information can be released.
