A male whom Local 12 identified as NICK STEWART, was caught on camera tossing a dog in a dumpster as if he was getting rid of unwanted and useless items!

It’s unclear why the authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s name and mugshot at this time!

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, off Shaker Run Road in the Webster Green subdivision of Peebles in Adams County.

Ms. Ashley Nesbitt told news outlets that it was her husband who discovered the dog, a 9-year-old male Chihuahua who also had a “zip-tie” around his throat. Some news agencies referred to the furbaby as Ollie and others as Oliver.

Ms. Nesbitt recounted on her Facebook post that on Wednesday afternoon, her husband “had taken boxes to the dumpster and heard heavy, gasping breaths. He immediately jumped into the dumpster (which thankfully was mostly empty) and found the bag moving. He ripped it open and saw one of the worst things a person could ever imagine seeing.”

Ms. Nesbitt went on to say that her husband ran to the nearest neighbor’s house and used their garden hose to cool down the furbaby and then proceeded to cut the “zip-tie” off his throat.

Adams County Dog Warden Donnie Swayne responded to the scene and took custody of the dog.

Ms. Nesbitt explained that “After spending hours sifting through our outside camera video footage, my husband and our property manager found the man responsible for such a heinous crime. He is a local resident.”

Peebles Police Chief Matthew Windle told WLWT5: “I know a lot of people’s been, has been kind of up in arms about it. There’s been a lot of social media about the dog. It was a tragic thing. Luckily, the dog’s okay.” Chief Windle then clarified that it wasn’t a “zip-tie” around the dog’s throat, but a flea collar, and that “The individual that this happened with was the boyfriend of the actual owner of the dog.”

Ms. Nesbitt said the dog was lethargic, he was not moving, he was malnourished and had cuts on his neck. Swayne said that a veterinarian verified the redness was the result of a thick collar.

For now, the furbaby is in the care of the Adams County Dog Warden and on June 8, 2023, they wrote in Facebook post: “Update on the dog found in dumpster the dog is doing well and will remain at the Adams County kennel until the case has been to court.”

Here is the bad news, the Voiceless Victim may go back to STEWART, the monster who threw this precious life in a dumpster!

STEWART told Local 12 that his family is in the process of moving and that accidentally, he tripped over the dog. He thought he had killed the dog which is why he put the dog in the trash bag.

In a pathetic statement, STEWART said: “I understand I didn’t handle it the correct way. Like I said, I used poor judgement. Just in the moment I wasn't thinking clearly.”

Swayne is having a hard time understanding why STEWART did this and told WKRC: “He’s been well taken care of up to the point he’d been in the dumpster. Like I said, he’s up to the weight he should be. He’s a neutered male. So, the owners have taken care of him in the past, so we don’t know what led up to the incident yesterday.”

With all due respect, the fact that the furbaby was neutered does not prove that he was very well taken care of. It’s also possible that he was neutered before he went into that family!

On Wednesday, Chief Windle charged STEWART with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, first-degree. He is due in Peebles' Mayor's Court on June 21, 2023.

Now, it’s up to the judge to decide where the Voiceless Victim will go.

On January 28, 2023, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office received an animal cruelty complaint at a property on 379 Wynn Road in Piketon.

Deputies responded to the address and found a deceased dog, tied to a tractor near the roadway, who appeared to have been beaten.

On the property, deputies then discovered over forty (40) dead dogs, many dead chickens, one live pig, and eighty (80) live dogs who were in “various states of malnutrition/emaciated condition,” said Pike County Sheriff Tracy D. Evans.

According to a news release by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was executed at the property and multiple organizations responded to the scene to assist with the investigation including the Ross County Humane Society, Pike County Humane Agents, Pet Pals volunteers, and the Pike County Commissioners.

Many of the animals were taken to remote locations to receive care and be assessed by a veterinarian. Two of the deceased animals were taken for a necropsy.

Authorities arrested the resident of the property, 62-years-old WYNDAN SKYE (pictured), and charged him with cruelty to companion animals, a fifth-degree felony.

SKYE was arraigned on January 30, 2023, and bond was set at $40,000. Online records show he is still in custody. SKYE’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in Pike County Court.

Sheriff Evans advised that the investigation is ongoing and will be submitted to the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office to see if additional charges will be filed to be reviewed by a grand jury.

In a news release, the Preble County Sheriff’s Office said that on December 27, 2022, deputies received a call about a Beagle puppy who had been dumped at the intersection of Verona Road and Sonora Road, in a small plastic crate.

Deputies responded to the scene and found the crate with the puppy inside. As indicated in the release, “On this particular day, it was 25 degrees outside.”

The release goes on to explain that “The dog was barely able to move and was taken by deputies for emergency medical treatment at a local veterinarian. The veterinarian determined that the dog was approximately 22-weeks old and was found to be malnourished, very thin, suffered from decreased muscle loss, and was dehydrated.”

Deputies launched an investigation to locate the person(s) responsible for dumping the VOICELESS VICTIM.

The sheriff’s office said that the investigation led to a search warrant being served at the residence of 26-years-old KAYLA RAE BROWN (pictured), of Lewisburg.

BROWN was placed under arrest at her residence on January 30, 2023, and charged with two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, one felony count of animal cruelty and one count of falsification. On January 31, 2023, BROWN appeared in Eaton Municipal Court where her bond was set at $25,085.00 cash. Online records show she is still in custody.

Court records show BROWN’s hearing is set to take place on February 8, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

I have emailed Preble County Sheriff Michael Simpson to inquire about the puppy and he told me that the puppy is a male. He also said: “We understood his name to be Jett. He has since been adopted out to a great home. Not sure if he kept his same name or not.”
