JASON CHRISTOPHER MEARNS arrested for strangling a 3-year-old dog to death

The Kaua’i Police Department arrested 49-years-old JASON CHRISTOPHER MEARNS (pictured).

 

Police said in a press release that on the early afternoon of Sunday, March 17, 2024, officers responded to a residence on Eke Road in Kōloa after receiving a report about a dog who had been strangled to death.

 

Officers learned that a 35-year-old man was inside his residence when he heard a loud noise coming from outside where his dog was. When the man went outside to check what was happening, he saw MEARNS “lifting his dog off the ground” by his chain.

 

Sadly, by the time officers arrived, the Voiceless Victim, a 3-year-old terrier mix, was already dead.

 

KHON2 identified the dog’s guardian as Keoni Tin and the dog as Koa’Ipo.

 

Officers interviewed witnesses and learned that there was an argument between MEARNS and Keoni which eventually escalated into a physical altercation causing Keoni to sustain an abrasion to his left forearm, along with several scrapes and bruises.

 

In an interview with KHON2, Keoni said that Koa’Ipo had been in his family since he was a puppy and that “He was the best dog ever. He was a good watch dog.”

 

Keoni told KHON2 that MEARNS “bashed the dog’s head with a 30 pound dumbbell” and that Koa’Ipo did not even have time to bark because he was sleeping.

 

Keoni rightfully said that “This should be considered murder, not animal cruelty.”

Keoni and his family want justice and hope that MEARNS gets “what he deserves.”

 

The murderer was arrested for cruelty to animals in the first degree and assault in the third degree. At time of writing, records show that he is being held on $20,000 bail in the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

MEARNS’ arraignment was scheduled to take place on the afternoon of Friday, March 22, 2024.

I have emailed County of Kaua'i Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to inquire about MEARNS’ arraignment. If I get a response, I will post an update.

BRONSON VALENCIA-YASUE arrested after viral video showing him beating a dog

The Hawai’i Police Department arrested 30-years-old BRONSON VALENCIA-YASUE (pictured), of Pāhoa.

 

Police said in a press release that they received multiple tips regarding a video circulating on social media depicting a man beating a dog.

 

An investigation into the incident identified VALENCIA-YASUE as the abuser. Officers conducted multiple area checks for the Voiceless Victim and VALENCIA-YASUE but were unable to locate either of them.

Police said that the Animal Control and Protection Agency was also contacted and alerted to the incident.  

 

VALENCIA-YASUE turned himself into police in Hilo on March 21, 2024. He was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree animal cruelty.

VALENCIA-YASUE, however, was released as the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was unable to file formal charges in court “due to certain information being unknown at this time”, explained police. The investigation is ongoing and once it’s completed, it will be forwarded to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for further review.

 

Police said that the dog’s whereabouts is not known at this time and did not release additional information.

 

Island News included the video in question in their article and said they obtained it from Instagram account @Hawaiinewsreport's post.

 

According to a petition started by Viva Animal Warriors Honolulu on Change.org, VALENCIA-YASUE “documented and posted videos kicking and beating his own dog and threatening to shoot and kill her and even attack anyone who dares challenge him. In his own words.”

The petition also mentions that the furbaby may be pregnant but there is no official confirmation from the authorities.

I checked the YouTube link provided by Viva Animal Warriors Honolulu but the video was taken down as it violates the platform’s policy on violent or graphic content.

ESTEVAN E. PAPPION arrested for fatally shooting one of his dogs

- Louisiana, USA -

 

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-years-old ESTEVAN E. PAPPION (pictured).

 

On March 17, 2024, PAPPION called the sheriff’s office to report that one of his dogs had been shot and killed.

Deputies then responded to a home on E. Opelousas Street in Lake Charles to investigate.

 

According to the press release by the sheriff’s office, when deputies arrived at the scene, PAPPION claimed that when he arrived at home and opened the door, he saw that one of his dogs had been fatally shot. PAPPION additionally claimed that he did not go inside and that he closed the door and then he alerted the authorities.

 

As the investigation progressed, PAPPION told deputies that he had shot the dog.

 

Deputies placed PAPPION under arrest and booked him into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on aggravated cruelty to animals and criminal mischief.

Magistrate Court Judge Tony Fazzio set a $45,500 bond which PAPPION posted and was then released.

 

No additional details were disclosed, so I have sent out a few emails to inquire about all of the dogs. If I get a response, I will post an update.

 

Authorities did not share the name of the deceased furbaby, so I took the liberty of naming him/her Orchid for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
