KEITH EVANCIK LAHEY arrested – In 2020, his dog had to be euthanized due to “extreme neglect”

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-years-old KEITH EVANCIK LAHEY (pictured) on Thursday, July 13, 2023, but the case connected to this arrest dates back to November 2020.


In a news release, the sheriff’s office said that on November 19, 2020, deputies were dispatched to LAHEY’s home to investigate a report of animal abuse. At the time of the incident LAHEY was living in Naples Park.


LAHEY led deputies to his garage where they found a small dog in a cage under a boat.

The Voiceless Victim was a 17-year-old Shih Tzu named Duncan.


According to the release, Duncan appeared to be in distress. He “was covered in dirt, feces and urine”, and his “fur was matted.”

Duncan had difficulty breathing, a bone was showing in one of his front legs and he was unable to walk due to damage to his front paws.


Collier County Domestic Animal Services were called in and the responding officer confirmed Duncan appeared neglected, malnourished, underweight, and his skin was decaying due to a lack of care.


The sheriff’s office said LAHEY told deputies Duncan lived in the cage in the garage, and “seemed unconcerned about the dog’s condition which he attributed to old age.”


That same day, Duncan was examined by a veterinarian who reported that Duncan was emaciated, weighing only 5 pounds. Duncan was covered in open sores and ulcers and suffered from possible blood poisoning. Furthermore, the vet’s assessment determined that Duncan was neglected “to the extreme.”

Sadly, Duncan was euthanized per the vet’s recommendation due to his “severe condition.”


The sheriff’s office submitted to the State Attorney’s Office an arrest warrant for LAHEY charging him with one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty.

The warrant was approved and LAHEY was placed under arrest after being located on Thursday. Online arrest records show that LAHEY was released the following day after posting bond!


In the press release it’s not explained why LAHEY was only recently arrested if the incident happened in 2020. I have emailed Collier County Sheriff Kevin J. Rambosk to inquire about that and if he responds, I will post an update.


Court records show that LAHEY, now of 3611 8th Avenue S.E., Naples, is scheduled to appear in court on August 7, 2023.


Sheriff Rambosk said in a statement: “Animal cruelty can never be justified. In Collier County, if you abuse an animal you are absolutely going to jail.”


I regularly come across countless sheriffs, police chiefs, and prosecutors who firmly state that in their county animal cruelty will not be tolerated!

However, what I continue to see is animal cruelty cases that go to court where more often than not, there is a “tolerant” judge!

LAHEY deserves to be locked in a tiny cage and kept under a boat without food or water until his useless life expires!

EYRINA JACQUELINE BUENO charged with misdemeanors for not caring for her dogs - One was euthanized

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick announced that 34-years-old EYRINA JACQUELINE BUENO (pictured), is facing fourteen (14) misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, and three (3) misdemeanor counts of violation of owner’s duties, in reference to an investigation into the welfare of twelve dogs in her care.


Additionally, BUENO is facing one (1) misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and three (3) misdemeanor counts of violation of owner’s duties in connection with the welfare of a 5-year-old female American Bulldog named Climax in her care.


According to a news release by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, on March 19, 2023, Climax suffered a burst mammary tumor but BUENO waited until the afternoon of March 21, 2023, to take the furbaby to the vet. Climax “was unable to walk due to actively suffering from emaciation” stated the release. The release went on to say that the vet advised BUENO that “the most humane care for Climax would be euthanasia due to her suffering from the burst mammary tumor, multiple untreated tumors, starvation, malnutrition, severe muscle loss, and severe arthritis.”


Following an investigation into Climax’s condition, authorities executed a search warrant at BUENO’s home in the 25W400 block of Lake Street in Roselle on May 25, 2023.

The search led to the discovery and removal of a total of twelve (12) dogs. Officials found one (1) adult Doberman, four (4) American Bulldog puppies, and seven (7) adult American Bulldogs all living in inhumane conditions.

The adult dogs ranged in age from two to nine years old while the puppies were approximately two months old.


All the Voiceless Victims were in inadequate medical condition with some “suffering punctures in the face, moderate to severe Moth-Eaten Alopecia (hair loss), heartworm, worn-down teeth, respiratory distress, skin infections, bladder stones, and bacterial infections” stated the release. Furthermore, at least of one the puppies had their ears cropped by “someone other than a medical professional.”

All twelve furbabies are at DuPage County Animal Care and Control and are receiving the medical attention they need and deserve.


DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement: “As with every case that comes through my office, charging decisions are based on the evidence and the law. Had the evidence and law supported felony charges, my office would have charged Mrs. Bueno accordingly.”


BUENO’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 19, 2023, for status in front of Judge Jill Otte.

APRIL MICHELLE ELLIOTT facing charges after live and dead animals found in inhumane conditions

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced in a news release that on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, two felony animal cruelty charges were filed against 60-years-old APRIL MICHELLE ELLIOTT (pictured).


According to the release, the charges are the result of a continuing investigation into the level of care ELLIOTT provided for dozens of animals at her property in the 2N200 block of Mildred Avenue in Glen Ellyn.


On June 27, 2023, DuPage County Animal Services responded to ELLIOTT’s property about the welfare of a dog who was left outside all day on a tether and appeared to be very skinny.

At the location, officers found the dog tethered outside, as well as many large dogs. Some of them were lying on the ground and others were being kept in cages stacked on top of each other. Officers reported there were “four to five dogs in each cage.”


The same day, as ELLIOTT did not allow officers to enter her home, a search warrant was obtained and executed.


The search led to the discovery of thirty-three (33) live dogs, nine (9) deceased dogs, four (4) deceased chinchillas and one (1) deceased rabbit. All the Voiceless Victims were living in inhumane conditions.


Daily Herald reports that “Veterinarians who examined the live dogs gave many of them a rating of 0.5 on a 5-point scale for body weight.” According to the news agency, an officer said that vets found it problematic to administer vaccinations and inject identification microchips because of a lack of muscle on the furbabies. One of the dogs was too weak to walk and likely would have died that night, the officer said.


The University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic Lab is conducting necropsies on the deceased furvictims.


The news release explained that according to the felony complaint filed against ELLIOTT on Tuesday, from approximately June 15, 2023, through to July 11, 2023, ELLIOTT failed to “provide veterinary treatment to a companion animal, an adult male Husky mix dog named Flounder, when Flounder was severely malnourished, that caused Flounder to suffer serious injury and subsequent death.”


As part of the civil proceedings, the State had filed a petition seeking forfeiture of the remaining dogs. On the morning of Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Judge Paul Marchese ordered ELLIOTT’s rights to the thirty-two (32) dogs to be forfeited. These furvictims are now in the care of DuPage Animal Services and once they have fully recovered, they will be available for adoption.


As explained in the release, in addition to the new two felony charges, ELLIOTT, is also facing misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and violation of owner’s duties that were filed on June 29, 2023, by DuPage Animal Services. The agency filed against ELLIOTT thirty-three (33) charges of cruelty to animals and ninety-nine (99) counts of violation of owner’s duties.

The same day, Judge Joshua Dieden issued a $50,000 arrest warrant for ELLIOTT. She then turned herself in to the authorities on July 7, 2023, posted the necessary 10%, and was released from custody.


On the new felony charges, Judge David Schwartz issued a $75,000 arrest warrant for ELLIOTT. She appeared in court on July 12, 2023, on the misdemeanor case and was taken into custody on the warrant. ELLIOTT now lives in the 3400 block of Deep Wood Drive in Crystal Lake.


On July 12, 2023, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement: “It is alleged that Mrs. Elliott’s disregard for the health and her failure to provide even the basic necessities such as food and water to dozens of animals in her care resulted in the death of fifteen animals, including ten dogs, and left thirty-two dogs severely malnourished. This is a heart-breaking case for all those involved. Sadly, following emergency surgery yesterday, Flounder succumbed to his condition. I would like to thank DuPage County Animal Services, particularly Operations Manager Laura Flamion for their unwavering, compassionate commitment to the health and well-being of these dogs.”


ELLIOTT’s case will be in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
