On August 27, 2023, detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA arrested 43-years-old JILLIAN FITZPATRICK and 69-years-old JANINE ALBRECHT, both of Bohemia.

The agency said in a news release that on the early afternoon of Monday, July 10, 2023, the two females abandoned a one-eyed black cat at the end of South Denver Avenue in Bay Shore.

According to the release, the cat, a 6-year-old male named Rocky, was abandoned “within a few hundred feet of the defunct Town of Islip Animal Shelter that was replaced with a new building several years ago.”

Suffolk County SPCA said that a Good Samaritan caught FITZPATRICK and ALBRECHT in the act and alerted the agency. The Good Samaritan has since been caring for Rocky. The Suffolk County SPCA said that on August 17, 2023, Rocky underwent surgery but did not disclose additional information.

FITZPATRICK and ALBRECHT were each charged with one count of abandonment and conspiracy for abandoning.

Court records show that their next court appearance at First District Court in Central Islip is set for Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Rosann O. Orlando.

The Altamonte Springs Police Department announced the arrest of 36-years-old TONYA LYNN GROSE (pictured).

In a media release, police said that on September 20, 2023, the Department received a request for assistance with an animal well-being check from Seminole County Animal Services.

Officers responded to a property on 818 Ballard Street and met with the resident, GROSE.

According to the release, “officers could smell the pungent odor of urine and feces coming from inside the residence.”

When officers entered the residence, they saw “multiple emaciated dogs in cages without food or water, and birds in cages filled with feces and cockroaches.”

Additionally, officers found many cats and “the floor was covered with excrement, urine, and roaches.”

In the backyard, were two sheds and more malnourished dogs in cages. Inside of one of the two sheds, officers discovered many dogs. According to police, the shed was hot and there was no ventilation.

Officers then made a gruesome discovery in a second shed where they found a dog’s skeleton and fifteen (15) large trash bags “containing animal remains in various stages of decomposition.” This shed was emanating a “powerful odor”, stated the release.

An officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was also called in to check the well-being of the birds.

According to police, over two dozen animals were removed from the property and are in the care of Seminole County Animal Services for veterinary evaluation. One dog died while officials were on the scene and another passed away while being transported to Seminole County Animal Services.

As a consequence of this large intake, Seminole County Animal Services are now over capacity. If you wish and can afford to bring a new member into your family, please, call the shelter at (407) - 665 - 5201. Thank you!

Officers placed GROSE under arrest and booked her into the Seminole County Jail on five felony counts of cruelty to animals. Police said that additional charges are pending the results of the investigation.

Court records show GROSE made her first court appearance on September 21, 2023, and at time of writing, records show she is being held at the Seminole County Jail.

GROSE’s arrangement is scheduled for November 7, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Melanie Chase.

WESH reports that “According to the county, Grose was already on Animal Services' radar. They gave her her first verbal warning in 2017 after getting a call and doing a welfare check. The county said she made improvements.

But then, in August 2022, Animal Services got another call about possible abandonment because of the odor and noise.”

Police said they don’t know where GROSE got the animals from and the case is still under investigation.

The Bellevue Police Department arrested 24-years-old DEYJION TYRONE JEFFERSON (pictured).

In an emotional interview with KETV, Kiki Mathos explained that she and her seven-year-old son were out of town when her husband, JEFFERSON, committed the crime on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

JEFFERSON is accused of beating two cats, Reena and her sister Loka, with a wooden back scratcher.

KETV reports that according to police documents, JEFFERSON video messaged his wife Kiki to show her the injured furbabies. Kiki then alerted the authorities and the Bellevue Police Department along with the Nebraska Humane Society responded to the couple’s apartment.

Sadly, Reena later passed away, and Loka is being treated for serious bodily injuries.

While in tears, Kiki told KETV that she had had Reena and Loka since they were babies. She said: “You say cats, I say daughters.” She said that JEFFERSON beat the cats because they had scratched the carpet. Kiki rightfully said: “So what? My son draws on the wall, you’re gonna do the same thing to him?

6 News reports that JEFFERSON told police he was stressed and with a wooden back scratcher he “hit the cats about 10 times.”

6 News further reports that after JEFFERSON said he was stressed, he “allegedly told an officer he occasionally used marijuana and pointed to an ashtray that held smoked blunts in his kitchen. A marijuana grinder was also found by an officer in his apartment.”

JEFFERSON is charged with intentional animal cruelty.

He made his first court appearance on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and bond was set at $10,000. The savage is expected back in court on November 27, 2023.

Kiki has a GoFundMe to raise money for Loka’s medical bills. If you wish and can afford to donate, please click here. Thank you!
