The Collier County Sheriff’s Office announced that 19-years-old PEDRO SOLMULEN and 45-years-old YORDIS GUTIERREZ (both pictured), are facing charges of unlawful disposal of a dead animal.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said that on May 1, 2023, its Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance detectives made a gruesome discovery in the Golden Gate Estates neighborhood while they were conducting an investigation into an unrelated case.

Investigators found “several animal carcasses in a wooded area near the intersection of 18th Avenue Northeast and Desoto Boulevard. This is a residential area with an elementary school and middle school nearby”, stated the release.

The remains appeared to have been dumped on the property, with large sections removed, others were burned, and other parts were intact. Investigators believed this to be an ongoing issue as the remains were in “varying stages of decomposition.”

As explained in the media release, detectives used surveillance and other investigative tools to identify SOLMULEN and GUTIERREZ as suspects. Motion-activated hunting cameras set up on the site by detectives, captured SOLMULEN and GUTIERREZ “drive up in a blue Chevy Silverado with a 50-gallon barrel in the bed of the truck. Each time the truck left, fresh animal remains were immediately found afterward. This happened multiple times”, stated the release.

Additionally, detectives traced the U.S. Department of Agriculture sales tags found on the remains to GUTIERREZ’s livestock auction purchases in April and June.

Through the investigation, detectives established probable cause for the arrests of SOLMULEN and GUTIERREZ.

SOLMULEN was located on Friday, September 8, 2023, at his residence on 2021 Everglades Boulevard N. in Naples. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Collier County Jail.

GUTIERREZ, a convicted felon, is still at large and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest. So, if anyone is familiar with his whereabouts, please contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) - 252 - 9300. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477. Thank you!

In a statement, Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said: “This was outstanding investigative work by our dedicated Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance detectives who did a lot of leg work and devoted countless hours to this case.”

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office announced that 37-years-old CHARITY NICOLE KING (pictured), turned herself in.

KING was wanted for aggravated animal cruelty and animal abandonment and the sheriff’s office had reached out to the public for assistance.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said that in late July 2023, one German Shepherd and two Great Danes “were discarded like trash and left to suffer in a remote, rural part of DeSoto County.”

A Good Samaritan luckily found the malnourished furvictims and alerted the sheriff’s office. Its Criminal Investigative Division, led by Detective Sergeant Bailey, launched an investigation.

“….we were able to step in and ensure the dogs are no longer subjected to neglect and malnourishment”, stated the release.

Online arrest records show that KING was booked into the DeSoto County Jail on the evening of Wednesday, August 30, 2023, on three felony counts of abandonment of animals and two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty. KING was released a few hours later after posting bond.

According to court records, KING’s arraignment is slated to take place on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. before DeSoto County Circuit Judge Don T. Hall.

On the evening of Tuesday, August 15, 2023, deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Abbott Avenue in Deltona, after receiving a request for assistance from Deltona Animal Control.

In a press release, the sheriff's office explained that earlier that day, Animal Control officers took into custody two dogs after they had escaped their pen at the Abbott Avenue residence.

The two dogs are identified as a black female named Dolly, and a golden tan female named Buttercup.

According to the press release, “The officers were already familiar with the dogs from past escapes, but noticed their physical condition was worse than in the past.”

The sheriff’s office said that both Dolly and Buttercup were underweight, but Buttercup’s condition was “visibly concerning.” Buttercup’s hip bones, shoulder blades, and other bones were sticking out.

At the residence, officials found a third dog, a black male named Joker.

Investigators reported that “all bowls in the dogs’ enclosure were completely dry. A deputy found a hose and used it to provide Joker some water.”

As mentioned in the press release, that week temperatures climbed to 108 degrees.

Investigators interviewed the dogs’ guardian, 26-years-old ZACHARY MICHAEL CRAIN (pictured) and he said that “he had not bought food in about 5 weeks due to financial constraints.” In the video published by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, an animal control officer can be heard asking CRAIN: “When was last time that you, umm you weren’t able to like or that you actually gave them food?” To that, CRAIN answered: “The last time I gave them food would have been two or three days ago.” Please note how well-fed CRAIN looks !

A deputy then bought a large bag of Pedigree and personally took it to the residence. As stated in the press release, “The response to that gesture was captured in the attached body camera video.” Sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant was too nice to comment on what happened but I do not have any problems telling you that CRAIN’s wife, who opened the door, called the deputy a “shitty cop” in the presence of her children!

The sheriff’s office said that deputies conducted a walk-through of the home to confirm that the kids were receiving proper nutrition and care and “Plenty of food was observed in the pantry and refrigerator. Pizza was also delivered to the house while deputies were on scene.”

Deputies arrested CRAIN on Tuesday evening and booked him into the Volusia County Jail on three felony counts of animal cruelty and three misdemeanor counts of unlawful confinement/abandonment of animals without sufficient food or water. He was released after posting a $9,000 bail.

Deltona Animal Control officers took in the Voiceless Victims who are now finally receiving all the care they need, deserve, and should have been given by their so-called family!

Court records show that CRAIN’s hearing is slated to take place on September 7, 2023, at 2:45 p.m.

It’s unclear whether charges will be filed also against CRAIN’s wife. I will email the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to inquire.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office advised: “Rather than cause pain and suffering to animals, and to avoid the risk of criminal charges, anyone who is unable to provide their animals with proper nutrition, care, or shelter is encouraged to contact Animal Control, Animal Services or a reputable rescue organization to arrange for a surrender.”
