DOUGLAS REAMES, dog breeder, arrested - More than sixty dogs removed from a Tijeras home

On November 1, 2023, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and Bernalillo County Animal Care Services executed a search warrant at a property in the East Mountains resulting in fifty-four (54) dogs being removed, “with the expectation of approximately ten more to follow”, reports Tiffany Chamblee, Bernalillo County Animal Care Services manager.


The owner of the now condemned property, 70-years-old DOUGLAS REAMES (pictured), has been arrested and charged with felony extreme cruelty to animals.


The sheriff’s office said in a media release this is the result of a series of investigations into suspected animal cruelty. In the fall of 2022, the sheriff’s office and Bernalillo County Animal Care Services began collaborative efforts with REAMES to manage the number of dogs at his property. According to the sheriff’s office, at first, there was cooperation but over time the number of dogs fluctuated dramatically to the extent that by July 2023, the situation escalated into a community concern.


REAMES’ non-compliance resulted in breaches of the Bernalillo County Animal Care Ordinance leading to the execution of the warrant.


Investigators found multiple dogs kennels outside with no food, water, or insulation. The kennels were filled with trash and feces. Inside the property, the situation was just as bad. Investigators found human and animal feces among clutter and trash.


Sadly, officials also discovered animal bones and decomposing dog remains.


Detective Kevin Carhart, with the Bernalillo County Animal Cruelty Task Force, in an interview with KOB 4 said: “It seems apparent that it was an illegal dog breeding operation and it seemed to be a source of income for the suspect.”


Ms. Chamblee said that some of the dogs are “as young as two days and most are feral (unsocialized), ill, and/or have tested positive for parvovirus and coccidia.” She explained that “the socialized and healthy-appearing dogs are being quarantined due to their exposure to the parvovirus. Following a [ten-day] quarantine period, dogs cleared by the Animal Care Services medical team will eventually be made available for adoption.”


Here’s another devastating aspect of the case. As a result of this seizure, Animal Care Services is now over-capacity and has built special outdoor kennels to house a lot of the rescued Voiceless Victims.

REAMES made a court appearance on November 2, 2023, and judge Linda S. Rogers released him on the condition he cannot have any animals.

Court records show REAMES is expected back in court on November 29, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. before judge Claire A. McDaniel.

MARIA LUISA BAUTISTAGARCIA arrested - Her nameless dog was found extremely neglected and emaciated

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 47-years-old MA LUISA BAUTISTA GARCIA a.k.a. MARIA LUISA BAUTISTAGARCIA (pictured).


In a media release, the sheriff’s office said that on November 2, 2023, Officer Kain, one of its Animal Regulations Officers, rescued a female dog who was found in poor health condition at a home in Los Molinos.


According to the release, the Voiceless Victim was found emaciated weighing only 45 pounds.

The poor soul did not have access to food or water, she “had lacerations to her face and legs, suspected broken rear legs, missing and broken teeth.”


The dog was removed and taken to a veterinarian who reported that she had “a scar in her right eye, which appears to have caused blindness in the eye. She had scarring in both ears, and muscle wasting in the rear limbs. Plus other injuries.”


Deputies contacted the dog’s guardian, BAUTISTAGARCIA, at work and after being questioned, she was placed under arrest and booked into the Tehama County Jail on felony animal cruelty.


The furvictim is now in the care of a veterinary clinic. Hopefully, this sweet girl will fully recover so that she can be moved to the Tehama County Animal Care Center. From there, the next step will be finding a loving home.


As stated in the release, the dog’s name is not known, and it’s unclear whether she even has one.

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is suggesting to those who share its Facebook post, to propose a name for this beautiful soul. I propose Earth!


You have no idea how it kills me when I read stories about people who decide to have animals but then, they can’t be bothered to feed them, care for them, or even name them!

NYISHA L. SQUEGLIA murdered her dog–Video showed her beating, kicking, whipping and dragging the dog

A dog unable to fight back or call for help was savagely beaten, kicked, stomped on, whipped, dragged, and swung by the neck until he/she finally died!


The Bridgeport Police Department said the above are “all acts of prolonged torture and violence that culminated in the death of this dog.”


The scum responsible for this brutal and barbaric attack is 31-years-old NYISHA L. SQUEGLIA (pictured).


Police responded to SQUEGLIA’s home on October 7, 2023, in the East End after receiving a call about a dog who was found dead in the yard after being brutally beaten.


After reviewing videos from a neighbor's security camera, police learned that SQUEGLIA “maliciously and intentionally killed her dog.” According to a police report, SQUEGLIA used different objects to injure the dog “to cause a maximum amount of harm.” The report goes on to state that SQUEGLIA kept attacking the dog even when the poor soul “appears limp and lifeless.” Police also said that “The dog endured over 15 minutes of terror, torture, violence, and pain before finally dying.”


An officer then approached SQUEGLIA and asked her to explain the content of what officers had watched. According to the report, SQUEGLIA “appeared unaffected and gave short, unemotional responses.” SQUEGLIA implied that the actions seen in the video were the result of an incident where the dog had “attacked” her approximately 1-year-old child.


An officer reported that the child had a small scratch on the nose that “did not appear consistent with a dog bite.”

A different officer reported that the scratch on the child’s nose was not fresh and had already been scabbed.

SQUEGLIA told one of the officers that she just “snapped” and killed the dog.


News 12 reports that on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the filthy murderer appeared in Bridgeport Superior Court and the judge appointed attorney Joyce Glass as the animal advocate in the case under Desmond’s Law.

Ms. Glass explained to News 12: “This law allows attorneys to act in the interest of justice and also be a voice for the animals and we are permitted to speak in the court and be part of the resolution.”


On a separate note, News 12 reports that SQUEGLIA was “recently arrested on a charge of violation of probation.” In 2022, SQUEGLIA was sentenced to probation “after pleading guilty to fourth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery in a case from 2019.”


Authorities did not disclose the furbaby’s name, so I took the liberty of naming him/her Daffodil for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
