On Monday, October 30, 2023, at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court 29-years-old PETER TOLAND (pictured) was found guilty of animal cruelty after he buried his dog, a 3-year-old American Bull terrier named Luna, alive.

This filth is facing one count of causing unnecessary suffering and three counts of failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the needs of an animal.

District Judge Ted Magill released TOLAND on bail.

A member of the public found Luna buried up to her neck underneath rubble at Ballyarnett Country Park outside Derry on March 15, 2023. Reportedly, that citizen also saw two men at the scene.

Luna was then taken to the Whitehouse Veterinary Clinic.

Shauna Greeney, veterinary clinician at the Whitehouse Veterinary Clinic, said Luna was severely emaciated. She had multiple punctures to her head and nose, and had facial hematoma as well as fractures which had been caused by blunt force.

But that’s not all. Luna’s canine teeth were broken, her pulse was exposed, her abdomen had collapsed, she was covered in bite marks, and her ears were packed with mud.

Sadly, Luna was euthanized due to the severity of her injuries. A necropsy performed on Luna revealed that the fractures were recent, possibly only hours old, and the blows to the face had been caused by a wide object.

ITV reports that police launched an investigation, and following a large community response to a social media appeal, TOLAND was identified.

Police also received information that TOLAND had other animals in his home, but police efforts to contact him were unsuccessful.

After TOLAND’s identity became public, his home was attacked and the windows were smashed. TOLAND turned himself in “due to fear for his safety.”

Authorities obtained and executed a warrant. At TOLAND’s residence officials found in the backyard a pen with three dogs without bedding or water and covered in feces. The dogs were described as Whippet/Lurcher type. The Voiceless Victims were removed and taken to safety.

TOLAND was arrested and on March 18, 2023, he appeared at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court where District Judge Michael Ranaghan released him on a £1000 ($1,230) surety. Ranaghan ordered residence to be at an address approved to police, curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and electronic tagging. An additional condition of his release was that TOLAND was to sign three times per week with police. TOLAND was also ordered to not have, own or be left unsupervised with any animal.

TOLAND is scheduled for sentencing on December 11, 2023.

According to Sunday World, TOLAND has fled across the border after his house was attacked. He has recently been living in the Buncrana area of Co Donegal because of concerns for his safety.

On November 4, 2023, the Tulsa Police Department arrested 46-years-old REBECCA RHONDA RUTHERFORD (pictured), owner of Doggy Doodles Grooming.

This arrest is connected to an animal cruelty case for which 41-years-old DIEGO JAIMES ANGEL (also pictured), was arrested in September 2023, when an innocent dog died while being groomed by him at Doggy Doodles Grooming.

The furvictim was a 4-year-old Golden Doodle named Atlas.

It all started on September 1, 2023, when Atlas’ guardian, Mr. Anthony Sinor, took his furbaby to the facility for routine grooming. Mr. Sinor said the family had used the business several times before.

Mr. Sinor told KTUL that that day he received a call from Doggy Doodles Grooming telling him that Atlas had died. “They told me that he had a seizure and was defecating and that they tried CPR and mouth-to-mouth and then they took him to the vet.”

Atlas’ family then learned the heartbreaking truth when they received a call from Tulsa Animal Welfare Pets revealing that Atlas had been killed.

According to News On 6, an employee of Doggy Doodles Grooming reported a coworker had beaten Atlas.

Tulsa Police said that after receiving the alarming report, Tulsa Animal Welfare responded to the location and began an investigation. Officers reviewed the 20-minute video showing the beating from two angles.

News On 6 obtained the video of the incident and published brief moments of various situations. For the first minutes everything seemed ok until Atlas began to resist some drying. At that point, ANGEL can be seen beating him “on and off over another 10 minutes while the dog becomes increasingly agitated.”

Footage then shows that Atlas is taken into another room where he was beaten some more. Eventually, Atlas was dragged off the table, and it appears he was choked by ANGEL.

Investigators said ANGEL suspended Atlas “in a head-high position using a lead on a grooming table.” After the pole holding the lead was adjusted higher, Atlas never moved again on the video. ANGEL stood there watching!

Atlas was murdered in the presence of other employees “working nearby, sometimes within steps of the groomer.”

Tulsa Police said Tulsa Animal Welfare “was able to take possession of the deceased dog and transported the body to the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostics Laboratory in Stillwater for necropsy.”

On September 7, 2023, Tulsa Animal Welfare, assisted by the Tulsa Police Department, obtained an arrest warrant for ANGEL from the Tulsa County District Court for felony Animal Cruelty charges.

ANGEL was located by the Elk City Police Department at a dog show. He was taken into custody and extradited back to Tulsa County.

As for RUTHEFORD, she is charged with accessory to felony and obstructing and officer. She was released from the Tulsa County Jail less than an hour after her arrest.

Through a Facebook post, the Media-based animal shelter Providence Animal Center, advised that a dog named Denali, who the shelter had adopted out, was found dead.

An investigation by Officer Jason Bell led to the discovery of Denali’s remains and the arrest of 62-years-old DAVID ALLEN SAXTON (pictured).

Daily Times reports that according to a criminal complaint filed by Officer Bell, Denali had been adopted out on August 26, 2023, to SAXTON’s daughter, Erica. She was made aware of Denali’s past behavior history “and she signed a liability waiver indicating that Denali may need professional behavior services.”

Denali was then renamed Duncan by what was supposed to be his furever loving family.

On October 4, 2023, following alleged Denali’s behavioral issues, the family filed a surrender request with the Providence Animal Center claiming that Denali showed aggressive behavior, including an alleged bite.

Initially, the family made arrangements to return Denali on October 20, 2023, but then brought the date forward to October 10, 2023.

On October 9, 2023, the Providence Animal Center called Erica and Lynne Saxon and learned that they had made plans to euthanize Denali and even booked an appointment at two local vets but these had been canceled.

On the same day, humane officers went to the Saxton’s home to perform a welfare check but they did not get an answer.

On October 10, 2023, Denali was supposed to be returned to the Providence Animal Center, but staff received a text message from the family advising them that they would not be returning him.

At that point, humane officers attempted to contact the family. They also received information from concerned citizens advising that Erica had messaged friends on social media saying that her father “Took matters into his own hands and took care of it.

Three days later, humane officers tried again to talk to the family. Officer Bell went the Saxton’s residence and again, no answer, so he posted a notice of investigation.

While on the scene, Officer Bell noticed in the rear yard a shovel “that appeared to be recently used to dig soil”, report Daily Times.

On October 15, 2023, DAVID ALLEN SAXTON turned himself into Brookhaven police and said he wanted to talk to Officer Bell.

Officer Bell questioned him and Lynne Saxton on October 18, 2023. During the interview, Lynne Saxton stated Denali was not house trained and that he chewed items in the home. She claimed that Denali had bitten her daughter and stated that no medical treatment was sought. She went on to say that she did not feel safe around Denali.

Officer Bell then questioned DAVID ALLEN SAXTON and he recounted the distressing facts that ultimately resulted in Denali’s death.

The following is reported by Daily Times:

He was sitting on the living room couch taking his work boots off when Denali started barking and lunged at him. Saxton pushed the dog backwards and Denali came back and started to nip at Saxton’s ear area but did not bite. Saxton then stood up and grabbed a dog leash that was on the end table near the couch and wrapped it around Denali’s neck in an attempt to strangle Denali with the intent to kill him. Denali fell to the floor after the struggle and Saxton thought he was dead, however Denali was gasping for air and Saxton saw his chest rising and falling.

Saxton then went into the kitchen and retrieved a large knife and returned to Denali, who was still on the floor. Saxton used the knife to lacerate the dog’s throat. He also admitted to taking a candle holder at some point and striking the dog’s head, causing the candleholder to break.

After Denali was dead, Saxton put the head and body in a trash bag and buried the carcass in the backyard.”

Officer Bell retrieved Denali’s body and a necropsy was performed by Dr. Kimberly Boudwin, chief medical officer at Providence Animal Center.

When Denali was exhumed, the leash used to strangle him was still around his neck.

Dr. Boudwin reported the cause of death was strangulation. The laceration took place after he had died.

The murderer was arraigned on October 24, 2023, and judge Robert M. D’Agostino set a meager bond of $20,000 which the murderer posted.

Court records show two dates for the murderer’s preliminary hearings. One on November 9, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. and the second one on November 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. both before Judge Georgia L. Stone.
