On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Warwick Police Department received a report regarding dogs left outside in the heat, and uncared for at 52-year-old ROSEMYNE MAZILE’s residence.

Responding officers sadly found a deceased dog. Police tell me the furvictim was a 5-year-old white male Morkie named Mickey. Police believe Mickey died due to neglect. His body will be sent to the University of Connecticut for a necropsy.

Officers also found two live dogs, a 7-year-old tan female Shih Poo named Ellie, and a 7-year-old black and white male Morkie named Oreo.

MAZILE was arrested and charged with one felony count of unnecessary cruelty to animals resulting in death, and two misdemeanor counts of unnecessary cruelty to animals – first offense.

MAZILE was able to post bail the night of the arrest. She has a court appearance scheduled for October 16, 2025.

Police also tell me that Ellie and Oreo were removed from MAZILE's residence and will be adopted out.

~ Update: July 22, 2025

I have reached out to Forever Paws Animal Shelter to inquire about the cat who was found alive and is in their care.

The organization told me in an email that the cat is a female they have named Sable.

The email also stated: “Based on our vet's estimates (using her teeth, body condition, etc), she is about five years old. She does have a minor heart murmur (graded at a 2/6) but is otherwise in good shape. She's understandably confused about what's going on but she's been easy to handle and has readily accepted attention from us. She will need to be spayed prior to going home and we don't know yet how she does with other cats or with dogs as we haven't wanted to overwhelm her while she's still adjusting.”

On July 15, 2025, officers with the New Bedford Police Department were called to Seabra Foods on Rockdale Avenue to assist Animal Control with a report of animals trapped inside a vehicle.

As officers approached the vehicle, they saw a black cat moving inside and were hit by “an overwhelming, foul odor”, stated the release by New Bedford PD.

The owner of the vehicle, 53-year-old BRANDI LYN MOSHER (pictured) of 80 DAVID STREET, arrived on the scene and told officers that three cats had been living in the vehicle. MOSHER further said that she had left the car parked for about two hours with an electric fan running and food and water inside.

Officers searched the vehicle, which was piled high with debris and personal belongings, and discovered three deceased cats. According to police, the poor souls appeared to have been dead for several weeks.

Animal Control measured the temperature inside the vehicle, recording 106 degrees Fahrenheit in the front and 131 degrees in the rear.

MOSHER was arrested and charged with four counts of animal cruelty.

The surviving cat was surrendered to Animal Control and later placed in the care of Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River.

I reached out to the New Bedford PD to inquire about all of the cats but the specific information I requested was not available. I was told that due to the advanced state of decomposition of the cats, necropsies will not be performed.

Constable Mark Herman's Office reports that 35-year-old ELIZABETH JONE WILSON (pictured), was arrested after she left a dog in a hot car while she was shopping.

According to the office’s press release, on July 20, 2025, deputy Graham responded to a Costco parking lot in the 26900 block of Northwest Freeway after receiving a report of a dog left in a non-running vehicle during extreme heat.

On arrival, deputy Graham located the vehicle with a Chihuahua inside, “visibly panting and drooling”, stated the release. The temperature outside was approximately 95 degrees, and deputy Graham reported that the interior of the vehicle felt even hotter.

Deputy Graham’s attempts to track down the owner of the vehicle were unsuccessful. WILSON took her sweet time to show up, as according to the release she returned “over an hour later.”

Deputy Graham questioned her about the dog whom she admitted to leaving in the vehicle while she shopped.

WILSON was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail for animal cruelty. Her bond was set at $100.00.

Constable Mark Herman expressed his gratitude to the alert citizen who reported this and to his deputies who acted swiftly. “Together, we protect the most vulnerable”, he said.
